Modern Stacking Chair Help!

Can you help me find a chair like the one in this photo? I am looking for bright yellow or orange for my son's playroom. The only thing I can find is at Target but reviews say they are horrible/scratch right up.

Littlenest dot com has a similar style chair for kids that is quality. I also saw a chair similar to it at ikea but I didn't like the plastic (that one looks like fiberglass) .

Thanks igloochic! I should have mentioned that I'm looking for an adult size chair even though it's for a playroom. It will be for my tall 8 year old for longterm use at a standard size desk.

Well, the "real" one is the Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chair. But there are lots and lots of knock-offs. I'll find some, hang on....

This isn't what you asked for, but I thought it might be a good alternative. It's twice as expensive, but looks to be more durable.

Ooops, I just saw you said red/orange. My mom has the real Jacobsen ones in a reddish-orange and they've held up beautifully. Most of the ones above come in those colors as well. Good luck!

Wow staceyneil thanks for showing me the real thing!! I never came across it in any of my searches. And it comes in the perfect yellow and orange too. Unfortunately, I can't afford $466 and I need 2 for identical side/by/side dormer window desks so that would be $932.

I'm loving all of the other options but doesn't look like any come in yellow or orange. So, I guess it's time for me to rethink color choices and choose a different color direction.

Oh the Target ones would be perfect but the reviews say that they just scratch and chip all over right away.

    Hi!

Mine came from West Elm and I love them! Mine were $79. I find them very sturdy and well made.

Could you paint the ones from Ikea?

    Elaine - love it!!

dlm2000 - I'm 400 miles from the closest Ikea and they are not available for purchase online. I have been thinking about finding something white and painting however, the first thing dh said was not to do that (I still haven't painted our dining room chairs which were purchased in a similar circumcstance, hehe).

The West Elm chair in my post is bent wood construction, it isn't plastic. When I was looking for mine I googled 'bent wood chair".

Only 400 miles? Eh - you can do it - grab a girlfriend ;-) And if you only have ONE project waiting for you to paint, your DH should be thankful! I'm guessing most of us here could beat that without blinking an eye!

Oh yeah, Deb is right. I have a whole storage area stacked full which has spilled into our basement woodwork shop and half our double extended length garage full of projects waiting to be stained or painted. You're hubby should feel very lucky it's only the dinning room chairs you've not painted.

I know, I totally should go to Ikea. I've always wanted to check it out. I don't mind the drive but my 1 year old son hates the car. I'm starting to get inspired to make the drive regardless :).

And trust me, we have waaaaaay more than 1 project in the wings....that's just the only chair project I have waiting, hehe. We just moved into this house and every single room is grossly outdated. We are pretty much redoing every room in the house. For painting, not only does every single wall and every single base board, chair rail and crown molding (in every room), need to be painted but I want to paint our horrible kitchen cabs (over 50 cabinet/drawer doors in there -- yes FIFTY!), our built in wall of cabinets/wainscoting around the fireplace, the cabinets in every bathroom and laundry room and more. It's exhausting just thinking about it all!

I feel like I'm constantly painting. I have paint in my hair, on my paints and fingernails as I type this right now!

I've spent the last 3 weekends on this playroom,
starting with removing 3 different types of wallpaper.
    That was fun :/.
I'm not entirly happy with the new wall color...
it's quite dark and muted (BM stratton blue).
One wall I painted with black chalkboard paint.
So I'm trying find a few ways to introduce some bright/fun colors
which I'm hoping to do with the chairs.
    Here is a before pic:

Would you consider this one from IKEA? Bright orange and aluminum, so lightweight but able to stand up to use.

    reidar chair orange

Or this one? Not orange, but a bright color that would be great with blue:

    bernhard in green-yellow

A few of these pillow covers, stuffed with the IKEA feather pillows:

Crate and Barrel has them for about $90.00.

    Does it need to stack???

I really love these two from Ikea. They aren't the mid-century look like the Series Seven but very Scandinavian looking. Unfortunately my Ikea doesn't carry them :(

    if they need to stack....
How about this? The "Type A Dining Chair", ~$80

The Target ones come in red or orange (at this price, 2 for $80, might be worth taking a chance on the longevity issue!)

Italmodern's Beatrix comes in red (but more expensive ay $355 for a set of 4, and a review on Amazon says it's not very comfortable...)

There's the Ghost Chair knock-off in red or orange, set of 2 for $500

Panton knock-off in red or orange:

Translucent plastic Gel-T chair in red or orange

Eames low lounge chair knock-off in orange $199 eBay (the real one comes in a dining-chair height version, not sure if the knock-offs do though)

Eames dining chair with chrome legs, red stain, ~$500+

Another "real" design, this is the Cherner chair in orange plywood ($700)

Thank you so much for sharing these great options! I really appreciate it! I'm going to start planning a trip to Ikea to see what they have available. I think I could easily pick any of the Ikea chairs. It's going to be a few weeks before I can get up there though so I'll keep checking out these other options in the meantime. I'd love to get something sooner rather than later.

I was really trying to stay away from red for these chairs but there are so many great options in red. I can't decide....if not yellow or orange, then it would be red or wood tone. Some of the natural wood tone ones really appeal to me but I think that's because they look so yellow online.

Oh, I meant to answer that it doesn't have to stack unless it only comes in a set of 4 (seems like quite a few come that way). That way I can stack away the other 2 in a closet for when we need extra chairs. But if I can get them individual or in a set of 2, it doesn't need to stack.

I would try craigslist. i see this type of chair on there all the time. Especially if it's for a playroom where it could easily get ruined.

Room&Board has a knock off of the Series 7 chair for $89. Great reviews, too (look at the reviews for the natural wood color version).
