Do I need a window treatment??

I bought this valance a few yrs ago, when this space was a builder beige color. Left it, even though I painted it red. Just because I've yet to find something else I love. I tend to buy things just to fill a spot right THEN. Instead of waiting to find the right one. Sooo..I'm waiting. Also deciding if I'm going to keep the red, or go back to a neutral.

Anyways, took the valance off last night and I love not having something up there. (I also grew to hate the style of the valance) So much more light comes in, and it just looks cleaner.

Does it look like it's missing something? Should I keep looking for something??

thanks!!!

Leave it off, it looks a million times better without it.

    I agree! Leave it off!

By the way - where did you find our black dining chairs?

I think that it looks better without. The black chairs make a huge difference, too!

The window looks better without. But there is another thread on this page on the same subject which says basically that WT's add warmth to the room (and sound-softening). So I wouldn't give up looking for something you like. Panels would be nice -- no valance.

    Thanks everyone!

Andee, I agree about the warth. I'm more a roman shade type of person these days, lol. But, dh is not a fan. The valance thing I'm pretty over..I know that. I would love simple panels but because it's by the table and I have 3 dogs that love to hang out there. I hesitate a bit.

Downsy, the chairs are just from JcPenny. Got them for my bday last yr, and they've held up great.
The big plan was/is to paint the legs of the table, and dark stain the top.
    Baby steps :)

I like it much better without. It raises the eye and emphasizes the trim. I do agree, though about fabrics adding warmth to a room. Panels I agree would not work. Some roman shades would be nice to swap out the wooden blinds and may give you the look you want. Other options could be to add a table runner or chair cushions and you'll still get that textile interest.

I'd love chair cushions, and actually looked at Pier One last wk. But, it'd take about 3 days and these boys of mine would have them covered in something!

Table runner should be pretty safe :)(can be removed at meal times) I'll add that to my list, thanks!

I like it without the valance but all my windows are either white shutters or white 2" blinds with nothing else. I like the clean look of that rather than layering. Now I could change my mind after I buy furniture (house is still being renovated) but I'm liking it for now. Take another photo if you add anything. It helps to see peoples photos when you're putting things together. Thanks.

Keep it off. Nothing else needed.

I definitely like it better without, but I'm one of the "bare" girls from the other thread.

Such a pretty window and nice trim. I say leave it off so that they are the stars.

I think the rich color of the walls gives enough warmth that you can do without a window treatment. I wonder if a piece of art with warm color on the empty side of the room, perhaps with tones of green, gold and/or terra cotta would also give added warmth and interest. A table runner in warm colors sounds like a great idea also.

    ty again everyone!!

ingrid, what empty side?? on the right of the window? I've always thought of putting something there, but I think it's just too close to the pic on the wall next to it. Especially in real life it looks it.
