loose stools

Our 9 month old "yorkiepoohuahua" came down with a bout of vomiting (foamy liquid) for about a half a day two days ago. This then turned into loose stools. We have not changed his food, although he is a "beggar" and there were several teenage girls around the house this past weekend and I am afraid he may have gotten into something. I gave him some white rice boiled in broth this morning and he loved it, but then later had another "soft serve" style movement. His activity level seems fine, he's ready to go for a walk around the neighborhood anytime we go outside. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You probably hit it on the head, although foamy liquid usually means an empty tummy - bile (the yellowish stuff) is an irritant to a stomach and bile is usually in an empty tummy...so Make certain your dog gets fed regularly (we changed my friends 3 pound 5 year old teacup chi to free feed) she is also a beggar, but we put out some kibble, some natural balance dog food and some dog biscuits and she all but ignores them until she is ready to eat. She use to mooch but does less so now. I would suggest feeding your dog smaller amounts but more often...Keep an eye on her for 24 hours. If she becomes lethargic or has the runs badly or continues to vomit, take her in. Next time there are visitors, lay down rules - no feeding the dog. Good luck

i just came back from picking my daughter up from school and found three places where he had vomited up the rice he'd eaten earlier. There was also a "stool" accident (he never has those) and it did seem a "little" bit more firm, but still very soft. I'm a bit worried about the regression back to vomiting, although my husband said he did eat quite a bit of the rice, something which he's not really used to. My friend, who is the owner of his sister said her holistic vet recommended canned pumpkin in small amounts and plain yogurt, so I got some of that, but he doesn't really seem interested. When I took him for a walk he seemed more than willing to go for a walk down the street, and was a bit reluctant to return home but I didn't want to tire him out too much. This has been going on since Monday morning.....I guess because he's so small (only weighs about 7 pounds or so) that I'm worried. We do free feed him his kibble, and he is ordinarily not an overeater....in fact his usual habit is to take about one day a week and not eat much of anything. He's been eating the Rachael Ray dog food for about four months now, with not a single problem.

    Take him to the vet?

just an fyi. i took him to the vet and we got home a while back. he has giardia. 5 meds and special diet (for 5 days) i am hoping that all of this helps.

Now try canned pumpkin (not pie filling) to alleviate the diarrhea.

    Good luck!

Ditto the advice to try feeding him some canned *unsweetened* pumpkin. At his size, maybe 2 or 3 teaspoons. Maybe mix a bit of chicken or beef broth in to make it more appetizing to him.

they told me no food until tomorrow, he's on four different meds, one for giardia, one for nausea/vomiting, one for worms (parasites---also used to treat giardia, and clavamox as a antibiotic. and some special "Prescription Diet i/d" to start him on starting tomorrow, only a little bit per day.
