Front porch needs decorating....

Eighteen years ago I picked up these two wire chairs at an auction. I painted them a light brown/bronze,put a metal coffee table in the corner, with a brown & white granite top(granite yard had it left over). Then put thick chair cushions on the seats & pillows(the arms are metal and uncomfortable without pillows). I tried out a new sewing machine embrodery on the pillows, used a dark forrest green fabric I already owned and it looks kinda....????? Well....I don't think the look works. Do the pillows need to be cream colored? A bright pattern? More geometric fabric? What? ???? Any suggestions? (Note: there are a sersies of 3 of these BIG brown glazed pots all in a row)

Wow, I love those chairs!! I'm big on color..so I'd have to see a larger picture of the porch and the front of your house to really give an opinion. Is that a wood plank porch? Beautiful!

You need a COLORFUL outdoor rug and some very bright, colorful cushions. Put up a shelf by the chairs and have a display of candles in various colorful candle holders. Replace that plant with a BIG tall plant and voila! Inviting, colorful spot to enjoy day or night (with candle light!)

I'd maybe move the table at an angle in the corner-- where the space between table and house makes a triangle?

The chairs are all delicate curls and curves, and they are too much of a contrast with the blocky shape and solid color of the cushions.

Perhaps cushions that are a softer shape? Rounder? Tufted?

And a print, maybe, with bright colors and rounded shapes?

Or even a brightly colored stripe?

Love those chairs to bits!!! While I like the idea of the light brown bronze color I think they'd show much better if painted black. Add large round pillows for the chair backs in a bold print (doesn't need to be bold colors, black and green on white would be great). Table base black as well, colorful flowering plants in hanging pot and a larger flowering plant in the corner. Candles in hurricanes, a footstool for comfort, pour some sweet tea (or whatever!) and you are set!

Peacock Chairs! Those are so lovely! Peacock chairs normally have rounded cushions and I dont think it is the shape of the cushions that is off but maybe because they are dark. I think something brighter even in a solid and maybe a striped or floral pillow to match.

If you could put the table at an angle between the two chairs or maybe the two chairs side by side, slightly turned in towards each other and the table in front of them?

If they were mine, I'd paint them black along with the table.I'd put a terra cotta print over the seat cushions and then darken the terra cotta pot on the steps a bit.

You guys are Gooooooooooooooooooood!!!! I love the big table(DH hogs little ones)....turning it sideways is a wonderful idea! Candles.....in the evening....how perfect!!! Going shopping to try that out(thrift store has a huge selection for under $5). Bigger plants, I like that too....maybe a bright red geranium in the pot and hanging basket? I'm gonna try adding some colorful pillows before I try reupholstering what's there.....that should give me a start!!! Thanks for all the suggestions.....any more?

You could always add a water element such as a fountain...perhaps a wall one?

Maybe it's the photo and the lighting but there's too little contrast between the chairs and the house exterior, including the decking.
As others mentioned, I'd paint them black or another color, then add some colorful cushions.

Inexpensive round cushions are available thru a variety of stores.

mom2sethc & oakleyok....thanks! I love them too....BUT...they are totally uncomfortable to sit in without the 4" thick cushions & pillow to lean on. The seat isn't round, it's half round. The chairs "were" painted black, they looked like cheap Mexican/southwest. (made in Mexico is stamped on each chair arm). I'm leaning towards color, candles and moving the table at an angle....?????

I love the silvery bronze color! It reinforces the delicacy of the chairs, and is much cooler than black would be.
Yes, turn the table 45 degrees to the corner, pull it out a bit, and put a big potted tree in that corner behind it. Stick to natural candles in big glass chimneys.
Cover the cushions in a bold Sunbrella cream and terra cotta or cream and sky blue stripe, and add pillows in a coordinating tropical print. Put a generous sized indoor-outdoor rug in a natural texture with a deeper or patterned border, but don't overdo the patterns...you want the pattern of those fabulous chairs to dominate. I would also find a big old mirror at a flea market or consignment store, paint the frame with exterior paint to match the stripe, and hang it vertically over the pot in the photo. Amazing what a mirror outside can do!
Pack your planters with a mixture of fragrant herbs and colorful foliage and blue and yellow flowering plants, and you'll have a real oasis out there!

(I know...I always go a bit too far...but I always want to describe what I see in my mind's eye, in case you might like it, too.)

Here's a link to a rug we have used in two of our kitchens, our basement, and outdoors on both our porches...cheap, attractive, and very satisfactory quality.

Ooooh, yes, a round rug would be perfect! Something in a pretty floral.

I'm leaning toward a stripe for the cushion fabric because you already have a stripe going with the floorboards and the clapboard on the house.

You could make half-round cushions for the backs of the chairs, with little ties to keep them in place.

Please post a photo when you're done!

    Just a thought...

mjlb.....thank you! Color it is!!! That really helps! I just came back from the thrift store, they had about 7 of these BIG glass chimneys I could put candles under.......and not burn the house down.....:0) In 2 days they go half price.

Your porch will be beautiful and I am waiting to see the finished project. You might be careful using glass chimneys if you have much wind.....certainly would not work in Kansas~~
