How exciting! You'll do great!!

I am excited for you. That is something that I've always wanted to do. I will be living vicariously through you, so make sure you post frequent updates. Good luck on your application.

yey, congratulations!

Thanks for the good wishes. There were so many considerations besides the obvious, heart-wrenching one.

JPW, you may be doing more than living vicariously. I will be calling on you, I am sure, for advice. :) You will wish I never got a dog.

Actually, I have many friends who have raised these puppies and who have/trained dogs, but I do seek multiple opinions for advice.

This is great! Just reading this and other posts, you seem to be the perfect person to do this....I'm really happy for you. Nothing but the best in your new venture.....

Oh, that sounds like a wonderful thing to do! I've thought about it "for someday" (after the old cat is gone) myself. I look forward to hearing of your experience as it unfolds.

Yea! I hope you get the call soon.

Always so admired people who could do this! Husband says he'd find it extremely difficult to part with the dog afterwards. Aside from the skill required, so much empathy and sacrifice. Has anyone ever seen that documentary where there's a program for women in prison to raise puppies? I wonder if the program is continuing. The women are carefully instructed and overseen of course, and they leave prison with new skills and attitude, many wanting to continue the work, or at the least become a dog groomer and such. Heartwarming. Lots of tears at departure but feelings of accomplishment in doing such valuable, important work. Best, suesan.
