What about some window treatments, another bedside lamp and a couple of colorful pillows - maybe something green - on the bed? Plants? Folded blanket on top of the chest at the end of the bed? It looks like you might have some framed art or photos leaning against the chair - if so, does any of that work in the room?

Well, I'm probably not the one to advise, I'm going to be looking for help soon too. I Don't know your taste except for the animal print doohicky. I really like your bed. Definitely do something with fabric on the windows. Your bed is screaming for something pretty, not too tailored. Maybe a white, green, brown, yellow small flowered print. If you lean toward animal prints, you could consider doing a large jungle leaf pattern. I think either would do well with your bed and colors. Definitely get larger lamps or hanging lamps. Is that a sofa or chair? I would put a print on the bed as well. I guess you could keep the dust ruffle, but I think something more "feminine" would be better for the bed and lighten up the mood of the room. The brown and green walls are pretty, but they're heavy colors and some prints would soften things a bit. Having said that, I think sheers on the windows would be nice, but I think there's enough solids in the room at the moment.
    Have fun with it!

Lisa, I'm sorry to hear of your recent divorce. Such a sad thing to have to go through. I have a dear friend going through one now and it's so difficult. I hope if there are children involved that it was a "friendly" divorce. As much as one can be, at least.
I love the green and brown of you "new" room! It and the rug remind of one of my favorite combinations....chocolate covered mint!
What about painting some of the details on your bed in green to bring a bit of green to around the room. If you can find fabric to match your rug (or even a sheet) to make a few toss pillows for the bed and upholstered chair in the corner. Not sure where the rug leads to, but I'd put it at my bedside. If you can find paper (wrapping) to match the rug or in a similar design in the g/b colors I'd wrap the books under your nightstand to match too.

Love your phone by the way! I do think a larger lamp would help too. Maybe a pair so you can have one on both nightstands.

Lisa, no no you've got it wrong... it's "since I'm newly single :D." You now get to use ALL the towels. You really can take your "half" of the bed right out of the middle. All the closets are YOURS. Woohoo! You don't have to watch anything you don't want on TV. Nobody comes home and spoils your mood at the end of the day. Life is good and you can do what you like without having to say please, thank you or I'm sorry. So cheer up little camper!

Even better, you don't have to have a half-masculine house any more unless you truly want one for yourself. You can indulge yourself with all the girly touches you want, if you want.

Have you looked at the bedrooms thread in the Gallery? There are hundreds of gorgeous ideas in there for you. Close this thread and look to the top right of the topics list for the link. Then dream away! Save the pics you like best to a little folder on your computer and you can pour over them later.

Oceanna; You make us all want to go there and re-do our bedrooms! YESS!! Let's do it!
    Me first, please. Need help!

Oceanna-that's just hilarious! Your right though....there are so many ways to look at my situation. And, I have so many blessings to be thankful for! I had a long talk with my kids last night and the 4 of us have become closer since he left. Time is my friend....I have setbacks..but overall, things do get easier. I am loving redoing rooms in the house! I am regretting my paint selections in my bedroom though. I just can't pull the room together. I should of picked out fabric first..I am going to call a drapery lady and have her bring swatches out and hopefully I can't find a beautiful fabric to tie the colors together!
Thanks so much for everyones kind words and advice on the room. And today I am going to re organize my bedroom closet..yipee!

I like the idea of green & brown, but I think there's too much of them both on the walls right now, and I agree...what do you do next to get a balance? I would replace green walls with a cream of your choice, and be bold with green accessories.

Examples: keep the bed & bedding & have a green throw at the end of your bed.

    green accent pillows

    green in rug

    green in lamps.

    Things like that.

    Oceanna,
You make dumping a hubby almost sound fun! LOL
You point out definite pluses to the no-mate household.

    Lisa,
I love that box at the end of your bed!

I love the color choices too -- they are 'my' colors. *s*

    I agree---
Pillows, panels on each side of the window, some greenery in the way of plants, accent/mood/up-lighting and something uniquely 'You' over the bed.

Beautiful start to a wonderful You-room!

It was fun, Amity, and an ever so good idea. :)

Lisa, that's the spirit! Life's too short to mope.

How about going for a total change in there? The brown seems awfully masculine to me. You can actually get away with something like this now... you have my official permission to go for the roses, the pinks, the laces and ruffles, the butterflies, the velvets, the tassels -- live it up a little! Do you have your permission?

See? Girl stuff! Pretty! Life can be pretty! It's okay!

Oceanna-I love those pictures!! Problem is....I just painted the room! The though of doing it again...is horrible to me! So, I need to work with the wall colors and bring girly stuff in through accessories, fabric, wall art...I painted first...thought later..dumb! Oh well....

Lisa, are you wanting to go more feminine like the rug you choose?

Or if you want sheets to match your zebra towel.....

thanks justgotabme! I especially love the zebra sheets! I'm thinking of accenting with the zebra...or something feminine, like a pretty floral. I'm thinking of a cornice board window treatment..with or without panels to kinda hide the pleated shades. I like those at night for privacy and darkness.

Oceana pointed out a lot of pluses of being single... and she didn't even get to food!

haha Love the Yard. So true! Of course with kids we still have to cook and all. But in the average household, yeah watch that beer budget drop.

Lisa, okay, I'll take you at your word, but I've painted and then painted again a day or two later when I didn't like the results... in fact I painted my bedroom 5 times in 2 years. Painting is like doing meditation, very relaxing and satisfying. I want what I want and a little time and expense is not a big deal -- so why go ahead in a direction you admit you feel is a mistake? I don't get that, sorry, as it looks like more mistake to me. Can you suck it up, ask your kids to help you, and make it a fun giggly family thing with homemade pizza after? Then pick an inspiration picture and go for it... and then do each of their rooms as a group effort too? The family will have fun, feel pride, and the house will be prettier. It's the fun family times together we remember forever... well, at least in my family. Of don't you have a gf who would help you if you help her?

Otherwise, straight talk, your bedroom looks like a batchelor pad, except for your darling bed frame and trunk. Seriously. I could see doing it if you paint the brown wall green. Gee, if I were there I'd help you and we'd have lots of fun.

Maybe I should shut up and go away now and you should go ahead and go for the unisex look. There's nothing wrong with it. Married people do it all the time and it can look good. It's just that going girly is one of the big perks of being single. But what do I know? I'll just lower lip it exit stage right. lol

BTW, is it still a master bedroom? Or is it now a mistress bedroom? A ms bedroom? ;)

    Lisa;
We've hit you with an onslaught of girly ideas, but only to pique your creative curiosity. You've been through a lot and you've painted your room and you're tired. Don't do any repainting now. Consider some of the suggestions for window treatments and adding to your bedding, using the colors you've already chosen. They're good colors! You can make a wall color change later if you want to without changing your other decorating colors. Step back and use some of these suggestions to build on your own personal taste. Really great rooms evolve over time, in my opinion, and you already have a good start. Take your time.

I would take a collection of empty picture frames in all different colours and sizes but mostly whites and some really large ones and hang them all over the brown wall.

I came to this thread late-- but I can't jump up and down and agree with Oceanna more! There are definitely some great benefits of being single-- and a bedroom as retreat is right up there at the top of the list. I know I didn't even know how much I'd compromised my tastes until I was single again. I wouldn't push you to change your room if you hadn't said that you'd regretted it-- but you did say that and I say do what you want NOW. I don't know your personality-- but you can go bold in your room-- you can go fun-- you can go tranquil-- you can go girly-- but wherever you go, make it someplace that makes you feel great. You deserve it! Indulge yourself..

Lisa, you said you want new bedding? If the challenge really is to stick with the paint and feminize the room up with bedding and accessories...

    1. How about something like THIS?

    2. Or THIS?

    3. Or THIS?

    4. Or THIS?

    5. Or THIS?

Great suggestions... and here's another (link below).

If the whole set is too much with the brown wall, you could use an ivory or lighter green duvet cover with the quilt on the bottom of the bed. I think your bed and cream bedside tables would break it up enough though. I'd definitely fill the bed with pillows.

I like this one so much that I happen to be sitting here under the very same quilt. I bought it for the back of my suv when I had to transport my rottweiler home from Phila after major abdominal surgery. I loved it so much, I keep it in the living room for cold tv nights. The picture below gives you just a peek-- but as you see it isn't as deep a brown as the ebay image. I think the browns and greens are very close to your walls.

How about white eyelet shams and Euroshams with an eyelet Bedskirt. Then add either a Balloon Sheer to your windows or long sheers with a fancy rod. I would add two lamps that either match or have a theme in common to the two night stands and add silk flowers with greens in them. I just love your bed. Is it Wesley Allen in the Rustic Ivory? My bed is the Maywood in Rustic Ivory. I love your style frame so much. I wish I had more room for the whole frame but I did not so I only got the headboard. I am seeing how wonderful the Rustic Ivory looks next to a darker wall. Maybe I will be brave and repaint my room a shade or two darker than the Deep Cream after my busy season or wait another year.

OK, I have to ask, what exactly is an adreanalectomy and how do you know one is needed? Beautiful dog, by the way.

lynn-yes..the bed is wesley allen..It's really old, have had it at least 12 years! I appreciate everyones opinions so much!! I need to get accessories that I love and see if the paint starts to come together better for me first. After that...I will repaint. I actually paid some family friend to paint for me because I couldn't move the furniture alone. So, I don't really mind painting...but that bed is brutally heavy and I have a dark brown armoire on the opposite wall that is big! So...here's what I'm thinking..

A brown/white zebra fabric cornice board with a green thin trim..don't know what it's called. Maybe panels on each side as well. I need to find wall art for the walls and for the wall over my bed. I think that will break up the paint color. I really do love the paint colors..just not happy with the room. Does that make sense? I do want a retreat...I redid my bathroom in browns and taupes and the colors make me feel calm. I wanted to do that through my room but thought it would be way to much all together. I have been through a lot the past 9 months, and unfortunately, the worst has yet to come. We are just now starting lawyer meetings. Much sadness to come. He just moved in to a new house around the corner...I hope it's ugly :) I thought his mid life crisis would of ended by now..but turns out...NO!

What do you think of this brown/ivory paisley bedding? Or a similar paisley in green? I should mention I don't want a big girly girl bedding. with a king size bed..I'm afraid it would dominate the whole room. I was thinking if I went with brown...it would tone down the green? Or am I thinking opposite?

Lisa.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Michael Kors set. I've looked at it for months (and recommended it to others here). Did you know Mombasa bedding has brown zebra print pillow cases. You may be able to mix and match some pillows to pull in your zebra windows and throw. I am not sure if the set will work with the paint you have.. but I'd give it a try! I think it's gorgeous and if it doesn't work then, like you said, you can paint again.

I too find browns and neutrals calming and my whole living room is very brown/neutral. I was concerned that you selected the colors subconsciously when you were in a somber mood-- but I totally "get" that they are relaxing colors to you. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. Sorry.

I am really excited for you. The bedding is a great starting place-- and will look great with your furniture. It will be such a wonderful space... please do share pictures!

funkyart_I'm going to look at the bedding today in person to decide! If I get it I will post pics. I found the perfect lamps today, and that already made such a big difference in the room! I just wish I could find something to hang on the wall over my bed...Ah...shopping!

Ahh.. perfect! I haven't seen it in person either (our local Macys doesn't carry nearly all that is online). I am sure it is just as lovely in person.

Do you have an idea of what you'd like to do over the bed? I could see a series of sepia photos.. a series of florals.. a piece of vintage ironwork.. draped sheers. Do you know if you want color or something tonal?

Darn! My macy's doesn't have it in the store...I'll have to figure out some other way to see it. I was also thinking sepia photos over the bed. I found a few I liked, and I was thinking of a brushed nickel frame. I'm worried a dark brown frame will blend into the wall and not sure black would like right. I'm thinking tonal though. Not sure I want to bring green onto that wall! I'm trying to tone down the green! Problems, problems. problems! I will post the lamps, they made a huge difference!

Darn! Well.. i just went through the same thing when purchasing my RL bedding. Macy's has free shipping right now and they state that you can return to any store-- so maybe you should give it a go. I honestly can't imagine that you wouldn't like the set.

I think I'd also do tonal-- or a simple botanical. Brushed Nickle would work.. so would a brown wood with just a little gold or silver (whichever matches room hardware) to give it definition.

You're doing great-- will watch for pictures with your new lamps.

Your trunk is so perfect-- every time I look at your pics, I long for it ha. Is it old? or made to look old?

twor_thanks for posting that pic! I really like that!
Funkyart-that trunk is so old! I bought it at Arhaus about 15 years ago and it is so scuffed up from all my dogs over the years using it to get on the bed. I still love it too! Thanks! I will post a pic of the lamps today. They look great! Maybe I will buy the bedding set..have nothing to lose if I can return to the store. Any ideas on the window treatment? I'm again thinking tonal. No contrast. So, either a sheer green, or even white/offwhite cornice or panels. I'm stuck their too!

Hi Lisa - I just stumbled across this post and I wanted to let you know that I have the Michael Kors bedding and I love it! It is really beautiful and the weight of the comforter is perfect. I wasn't able to see it in person before I bought it but I was very happy with the end result. Hope this helps!

I think you need bigger lamps. I'd do something in black for the base maybe. Then do a fabric shade.

I think you need to find fabric for the window treatments first then go out and get accessories.

Where id you get your bed? I love it!

Thanks! I did get new, bigger lamps and I love them. The shade is taupe and looks really pretty next to the bed. I got that 12 years ago at a mattress store, it is from wesley allen. Hope that helps! I'm still working on something for window and something for over my bed!

Not crazy about that floral you posted. It looks very "Bachelor" to me -- not nearly enough "bachelorette." :-) Oceanna, that second BR pic with the blue and white makes me want to curl up with a juicy novel.

I also was enthralled by your description of single life. Good thing DH does laundry and wipes runny noses (and bottoms, too) or he might be in trouble. :-)
