It's over. Almost.

I started tearing the first layer of paneling off my walls late in the afternoon of Feb. 8. {{gwi:1705094}}

Today is March 5 and I'm almost all the way back in my new kitchen. I did touch up paint tonight and will finish repainting the whole thing tomorrow. The demolition dust was unreal and I'm still finding it!

I didn't have time to get used to my temporary kitchen. I have the world's greatest carpenter and he got a lot done in a very short time. New outlets and the antique lights will be hooked up Monday. Floor patched from my new footprint. A bit of finish work. Otherwise, I'm in. I can't wait to take that cardboard stuff off the floor! LOVE my farm sink.

Love my cabinets. Love the new cabinets built over the basement steps that until now were the Great Wasteland.

The ceiling turned out great even if it gave my carpenter fits ;-) I used a photo I'd seen here; wainscoat 4x4 squares laid opposite directions every other one with 1x4 trim on every seam. I used wall paper instead of wood. The night of the day I papered those squares a net friend asked me to lay on the floor and take pictures of the ceiling. That floor was the most comfortable place I'd been all day!

So beautiful! And it went so fast (though it probably didn't feel like it at the time). Congratulations!

Looking good! I'll be watching for the next set of pics, especially curious about those cabs over basement stairs. You were SO fast with a down to the studs project! Love what the 1 X 4's do for the ceiling, too.

    Pinch!

We hadn't heard from you in so long that I thought you'd become lost in the rubble! Congrats on your progress!

I love your ceiling. Very original. What faucet is that? And I want to see your ''antique'' light. I'm also looking for an antique style light and am struggling with the search. What stove did you decide on? More pics, when you're done, please.

Ceiling turned out great! Now there's two of us who have wall papered our ceilings--everyone thought we were crazy when we told them what we had planned so I'm sure you did too. Looking forward to pictures of the finished kitchen.

Obviously the snow didn't slow you down nearly as much as you thought it would. (Is it starting to melt yet?) We started demo a week or so before you and have a GC and you are a couple of weeks ahead of us. Strong work!

And it looks beautiful! The sink is gorgeous... at least from that angle. I didn't remember the ceiling plan, but it's amazing, very creative and it turned out great! I can't tell that it's wallpaper.

When you are all finished, are you going to get a new camera? Phones just don't do it justice. I'd volunteer to take pics for you if you were closer.

I'm out of breath all the time! I have my own list of To Do when I get home so the carpenter can keep going next morning. I don't know which of us is pushing the other! He had told me it would take a month but I'd read so many stories here that I figured I'd be lucky to be done in two months. Well, SURPRISE! He's been here 4 weeks. If I didn't keep adding things on, he'd be gone!
All I do these days is move stuff around or paint or construct;-) Oh yeah, and go to work all day :-(
I got the lights off eBay.

I'll need one of the two light at the sink, the other at the east end and the three light at the west end. The cabinets are west end.

A friend volunteered her husband to rewire them. He ran into trouble with the parts he ordered so my carpenter will finish it up.
The faucet came from eBay, too. The link shows it at Wal Mart. I didn't put the soap dispenser in and now I can't find it. I will use it in the bathroom if I do.
After I bought those lights, I saw them at an archetectual salvage place for WAY more than I paid. Even WAY more than it cost me to fix them.
Yes, the ceiling was a contest of wills. And that paper is SOOOOOOOO touchy! It has several dings in it from fitting cabs and 1x4's. They fade away from the floor angle but I don't think I would use the paper anywhere other than out of touching height.
The snow is melting!! I have several places where I can see two fence strands. 'Course I have plenty of fence still completely buried in snow drifts. I check every time I drive onto the yard to be sure no one is out exploring the countryside.
I've given up on the induction for now. It's too expensive and Sears never has a real sale, they just cycle the two "sale" prices every two weeks. I'm going gas, white, sealed burners, self clean. There's a Hotpoint and a GE I like. Two people have warned me against the gray burner grates. Of all the grates I've touched, I'm disapointed in all of them. Very wimpy. I wonder how much more I need to spend to get good grates out of the box.
I still can't believe I'm going to be done this week! But when I walk into the kitchen, it feels like it's been that way forever. I wonder if it ever was. I hated that peninsula with a passion and now it's gone! Maybe when they first changed it from a porch to the kitchen, it was more like this. But since the newspapers under the cabs on the outside wall were 1950, maybe it always had the peninsula. From the old kitchen info posted here and other places, I can't think the cabinets were pre 1950. It had Linoleum on the walls under two layers of paneling. My house has been taken care of in it's time, it just didn't happen very often! On the other hand, it's probably just as well it wasn't worked on every few years. Houses seem to fare better if they aren't worked on so often.

Those l;ghts are beautiful and unique and will look wonderful in your k;tchen.

I just have to say when I looked at the first one, it immediately called to mind a creature from St@r W@rs. (I have seen way more of it than I ever cared to because my kids love it.)

The other two didn't strike me that way. And I know for sure that it won't look like that installed and with lights. Will they have globes? Any pics of those in action anywhere? What are they called?

(We will have an entire dictionary of GW spelling and tricks to circumvent the ads before it's all over.)
