sheers alone????????

Is it okay to just use sheers?

I am going to change these drapes to off white ones and was wondering if I could use just sheers? It will be set up the same way.

Is this okay?

    Oh yes!!!

I love the look of sheers, all by themselves. Very elegant and classy.

And they move so beautifully when the windows are open...

You can get all different colors and textures.

I am partial to crushed voile, which does marvelous things to the light.

I like to have something over the windows so I can close them at night for privacy. Sheers alone you can see in if it's a main floor window.

    Ooops, I forgot the picture.
Af all goes as planned, the walls will be aqua.

Have you considered a linen for your WTs?

You could still have a light and airy feeling with them but they might hold their own against the woven blinds better than sheers.

I love sheers, especially if they have some sort of pattern in them. Country Curtains on line have a very nice and reasonably priced selection. If privacy is not an issue I see no problem, and semisheers are also available which give more privacy. If you like the look I would go for it; I really think it's a matter of preference and what makes you happy.

Here are mine. I love this look. It feels open, airy, and modern to me. shhhh.....my big secret is that they are super cheap panels from Ikea.
I liked them better than some of the more expensive ones I look at because they are actually a very fine net texture. Kinda like super tiny fishnet hose.

Thank you all. Privacy is not an issue, so it will be easy for sheers.

Artlover, They are great! I have 10' ceilings. I see they have 118", is that what you have?

They say you can hem them, but was wondering if they had a hem to begin with.

Anyone know where to purchase 120" ones?

    Thanks

I have very similar to what artlover has in my computer room. The room is covered in windows, and I wanted something to soften the corners/edges of the windows but not take the eye away from the windows or really cover the wall color.

Instead of hanging the sheers right on the rod, I hung mine with the rings with hooks (you know...like shower curtain hooks, but meant for curtains). I love it.

artlover, what a lovely room. Such a great use of color and space. Is that a Botero print between the two windows?

Princessusan, I bought the 118' ones. They don't have a hem. You are supposed to cut them off to desired length, but I like them puddled on the floor. That way I can tuck the edges under.

Here's a close up of the bottom on the sheers, puddled on the floor, and a close up of the texture. It's hard to show scale of the texture. Each of the little holes is about 1/16th".

Thanks, ingrid. The painting is an original artlover. : ) You can't really tell in the photo, but it is a painting of an orchid.

What a lovely room and your windows look so airy...I am loving them! You have done a really nice job of making it look comfortable.

Will the sheers look okay if I use the same brackets as seen in my picture?

Would it look better if I used rings? I am really loving the sheers, so airy and bright.

    Thanks all

an original artlover, I love that orchid, lucky you to be so talented.
I linked Andrew Benyei's website, he does orchids too.

I love the softness of your sheer panels and the puddling, great idea.

Here is a link that might be useful: orchids

Artlover, your sheers are lovely. How much do you have in width with each panel? Off to check the Ikea site now.

I want to take down my red DR panels for the summer and this is just the look I'm after.

    Thank you for sharing.

Artlover I love your room and your orchid painting is so well done. Do you have other work you have done hanging in your house? we need to see!

Princessusan - yes, I think sheers would look very nice on the brackets you have. Be sure to plan on making then extra full. I have two 110" wide panels gathered down to about 12 or 15".

Cooperbailey - thanks for the compliment about my art work. Yes, it's all over my house, plus others made by DD. I'll try to get pictures made soon and post. I'm flattered that anyone is interested.

artlover, how could we not be interested when that painting is so gorgeous It's just so funny that to me at that distance it looked like one of Botero's chubby ladies. I love the gorgeous colors in your painting. Please do show us more of your paintings in close up and how you've placed them in your rooms. I'm sorry that I'm going off-thread here, I hope princessusan will forgive me.

Artlover, thanks for the advise......now I at least have a plan for those windows.

Ingrid, no problem, love looking at art, so I too am waiting to see them.

I second the motion for seeing artlover's paintings.

susan, on your short rods, I would make sure the sheers are extremely full in their gathering, same as artlovers. I would stick with a gathered rod pocket heading, not rings, imo....

Thank you mitch.....I was afraid I had to go with the rings. Thanks for the advise......you saved me some money.

Susan, I don't know if you saw my answer to Bonnieanne about the fullness. I use two 110" wide panels on each side of the window. So, I've got about 220" of sheers gathered down to 12 - 15' of rod. Sounds ridiculous, I know.

    Artlover...gorgeous room!
    Susan...give it a try! :)

The Anno Lill are 118" lenght, but only 24" wide, so I will have to buy quite a few to make it work. At their price I can handle it.

    Thanks for the help.

Having liked Artlover's sheers so much, but not wanting to drive all the way to Ikea, I went to Burlington Coat Factory and bought these sheers for the DR. I took down the red/gold striped panels for the summer and like the lighter look.

    That looks wonderful!!! :)

Bonnieann - it looks great! Your DR looks to be about the same size as mine. I love your chandy and china cabinet.

Looks great............I cant wait to get mine.......I will show you all as soon as room is complete.

They are so airy and fresh looking.

I put up sheers on a white rod in my bedroom and they made me love my linen Duette Architella Blinds since they softened the look and made them not clash with my deep cream walls. I love my sheers so much.

Artlover, I love the sheers in your room and I also like the sheers in Bonnieann's room. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Lori, Artlover, Princess and Lynn. Now I want to do the same thing in the living room! That will require 8 panels, but these are so inexpensive ($7.99/panel) that I think I'll do it for summer. I have champagne silk in there now, but I want a change!

Just wanted to thank you for sharing your source for your sheers. I'm too lazy to drive the 40 minutes to get to Ikea but did find 8 panels on Ebay in the Lill pattern. I hung them in the LR today. They bring a bit of summer to the room. Thanks again!

They all look wonderful! I used sheers in our dining room and master bedroom for the summer

Hi everyone. I haven't opened this thread in a while. When it popped to the top I was amazed by how lovely everyone's sheers look. A nice refreshing change for summer!

    Nice !!!!!

like a breath of fresh air !!

    Artlover,
I'm so glad you saw this. I just can't believe the quality of the Lill Ikea sheers. Never would I have considered them unless I saw them in your home. Thanks again.

    Ebay has lots of them!
