What logic or design sense for knobs/pulls

I'm so confused on what knobs/pulls I should get for my kitchen cabinets. I want to get clear crystal knobs with brushed nickle metal finish for a couple of reasons, first is that I love crystal and second that's what all the interior knobs are in the house (crystal and brushed nickle). Also, since the kitchen is part of the family room/dining room, I want the cabinets to look dressy. I've attached the link to the crystal knobs I'm considering just under the photo.

Here are my questions. On the cabinets you see in this photo, I thought I would put knobs on all the doors and then on the deep drawers to the right of the picture I would put double metal pulls, instead of the crystal knobs. This is the first querstion, will the mixture of crystal knobs and metal pulls look OK on these cabinets?

Second concern. My island is very dark wood as you can see. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of the inside showing the cabinet/drawer configuration. It has doors and a set of deep drawers like the wall cabinets. I'm not sure if I should put crystal and/or pulls on all of these or just metal pulls and knobs.

I'm trying not to overdue the crystal thing. I love it, but don't want my house to look like I'm drowning in crystal. LOL

Let me know your thoughts please. TIA

Here is a shot of the wall cabinets. Please forgive my top cabinets are still without doors.

I love the idea of crystal knobs! I wonder, though, if they are heavily facetted (sp?) on the back portion, will they be difficult to clean? I've seen some crystal/metal combos - I'll see if I can find them. also, I especially love the half moon pulls - would look awesome with your crystal knobs!

Hmmm, wrong metal, but along the lines of what I was thinking:

Do you have a Lee Valley Hardware catalog? They have almost every pull/knob under the sun! Might find some neat combination in there.

My rationale for our house was pretty simple--knobs for all the doors and cup pulls for all the drawers. I think the simpler the better--stick with your crystal as the knobs, if that works for you, and some type of pull for the drawers.

    Good luck--kitchen looks great already!!

Have you seen lleet's kitchen? From looking at her photos, I believe she used glass knobs on her uppers and pulls on the base cabinets. It looks nice!

Heres a link to her post...

YES! the crystal knobs combined with metal pulls will look fabulous. at least i think so, since that's what i'm planning.

and funny, but i was wondering the same thing about my island hardware just the other day. do you have a sample of the crystal knob? i think you'd have to put one in and see how you like it. i decided i was definitely over thinking all the details without actually having the space finished. BUT i did see a kitchen somewhere that had crystal knobs on the white cabs and nickel on a stained hutch. i'll search around but i've got so many magazines and "stuff" (ie: CRAP) lying around it could take a while. i think you could get away with either, but what kind of metal pull are you considering?

if you were to do the metal pulls in other areas i don't see why you couldn't use them on the island as well. i don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way to do it.

let us know what you choose and more pics please! it's looking great.
chloe: those are beautiful knobs. i bookmarked for later. thank you!

Definitely do the crystal knobs (whatever ones you choose) and the metal pulls. That will look fabulous. If it were me, I would do all metal on the island. It seems from your picture, that the island is pretty much facing the kitchen (so you wouldn't see the knobs from the living room, etc) so there isn't really much reason to put the crystal knobs on it. I also think that just by having the crystal knobs on the white cabinets you are making them more of a statement (they will be highlighted more as something special).

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Glad my vision was one that made sense. I have to double check my ideas sometimes. LOL

chloe, I saw those knobs that you pictures but my only concern was if they were too modern for the space. My house is very traditional. Everyone weigh in on those knobs chloe pictured and the ones I linked and let me know if both look traditional.

dkitchenreno, I was thinking the same thing about the island, just keeping it all metal.

Kate, the sample of the crystal knobs I was considering is in a link just below the photo I posted.

For the metal pulls I love the thought of the half moons, but I'm not sure how comfortable those would be for my arthritis. Just pulling with the tips of my fingers with my hand turned up might prove uncomfortable. It's hell when you have these aches and pains and you literally have to decorate around them. LOL I'll look for some pulls that allow me to slip my fingers in them from above or the side. If you have any recommendations, please feel free to post. Remember, it's the brushed nickle I'm going with.

    Thanks again.

I see no problem with going ALL crystal, although a combo is nice as well.

Instead of metal halfmoon pulls (same as cup pulls?), you could go crazy and get crystal dumbell pulls (now those really must have another name!) which might be easier on the arthritis.

You can't have too much crystal on white cabinets. Or black. Hmm.

I love the combo of crystal/glass and nickel. That's what I'd planned for my kit, but the crystal didn't have enough weight in my space. It'll look great in yours. I prefer the knobs you linked to over the ball-shaped ones.

LOVE your kitchen so far. It's beautiful.

i saw the link after i posted. the cut knobs are beauties and the price is great. ...definitely a consideration. and while the knobs cloe posted are less traditional, i think they'd work in any space. i like to mix things up a bit.

either way it's a fun road to travel!

Wanted to let you know I ordered some knobs and pulls from an e-bay store. I ordered the crystal with an antique brushed nickle backplate for the white doors. I ordered a antique brushed nickle pull for all the drawers, then antique brushed nickle knobs also with a backplate, for the 2 doors on the island cabinets. As soon as DH has time to install them once they are in, I'll post photo's. Thanks again for your help.
