How long should cabinet pulls be?

Hi there! We're building a new house (EarthCraft certified) and I'm trying to select the cabinet hardware. I get frustratingly little help from the cabinet folks. We went with mostly drawer stacks in the kitchen; some are 33" wide, some are 30" wide. Most of the pulls I see are 4-5" wide, which seems rather short to me. I can get some that are 6 7/8" (roughly) or some that are nearly 12" wide but seem to be marked as appliance pulls.

Does anyone know if there's a general rule of thumb on width of drawers to width of pulls? Also, the vanity in the master bath has 36" wide drawers so I'm looking for that, too.

Greatly appreciate your assistance!
