I really like pugs as companion dogs. Our former neighbors had two that we used to babysit. Very sweet dogs, just loved to hang out with us humans.

My cousin has a chihuahua and, like others I have seen, she is a bit nervous, but very bonded to her owner. She even lets my cousin dress her up in little outfits, with hats and all.

Let's hope a mix would have good qualities of both.

You can never really tell how dogs will get along until you introduce them to each other. Is your dachshund a male or a female?

petaloid - Thanks for getting back to me. I had a Cairn terrier and Chihuahua mix for 18.5 years and she had all the bad qualities of a Chihuahua personality. The big dog personality in a little body. She could be meaner then a junk yard dog, all 8 lbs of her! Always taking on big dogs and even a horse.

My Dachshund is a female, Elvira. I would like to get another female but younger so they can be mother and daughter, and hopefully no dominance issues. I just don't like a male dog's affinity for territorial marking, even when neutered. And they tend to be more dominate and agressive, or at least males I had in the past were.

Take your pup and the prospect for a walk on leashes for a good walkies, a couple of minutes should do. Neutral territory so nobody gets too bent out of shape. If they do well on leashes, take them to a fenced area where they can play, again on neutral territory....good luck and kudos to yo for considering a rescue
