If your not interested in continuing the same flooring, have you looked into slate? I've always loved slate flooring in kitchens. Although if you drop something, it most definitely will break. If you went with slate, you could choose some of the colorings to use for wall color.

Hi---well since you have the laminate in the dining-I'd carry it through into the kitchen just so it looks uninterrupted. If you do---then tile the backsplash AND------the entire wall with the window---doing so will create visual interest and deter the eye from looking at the floor/cabs being close in color. Good Luck!
