My Sofie

I came home and found my little cat Sofie dead. I don't know what happened. She seemed ok over the weekend and in the morning, but I must have missed something.

I am devastated. She was only 5, and I had her for only 4 years. She was so attentive to me, and helped me when my mother was dying. My heart is broken.

OMG. I am sorry for your loss.

Its especially hard when its unexpected and they are so young.

My thoughts go out to you and your furry family.

And don't beat yourself up too much. (I know, easier said than done.) You didn't miss anything. If there were something to see, she would've hidden it from you anyway.

Oh Elly, I am so sorry.

    I am so sorry.

Elly, I'm so sorry. These losses are so very heart-wrenching and coming so young and unexpected makes it even harder. I am still beating myself up over the loss of Chinook - it's been four months - and all I can say is, try to forgive yourself. You didn't do anything wrong and your rational mind knows that, you just have to convince your emotional mind that it isn't your fault. I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

That is just terrible, I am so very sorry!!

    My thoughts are with you.

"I don't know what happened." The not knowing is going to be with you for ever--for some reason, we think that understanding helps bring a closure, or at least helps us ease our inability to prevent it. I don't know, but it is possible. I am still wondering myself about my 2 cats--and that was not that sudden.
I think there is no way anyone who loved their cats would not feel devastated for not being there. It is only natural to feel you have let Sofie down, even if she did not give you any signs. It is OK to cry.. and if it helps, please talk to us about Sofie. We'll listen to every word. Remember all the fun, special things she did. She helped you through hard times, she loved you and you loved her. She will always know it.
My heart goes to you, Elly.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to loose them like that.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I know how you loved her. Sudden deaths like that are especially hard. If they have been ill and are elderly, some times it's a blessing. But this is terrible..so young. Take care.

so sorry to hear of ur loss theres nothing u cld of done as iam sure if there was anything amiss u would of had it checked .sudden death is hard esp if u dont know what caused it but you both loved each other and she would of know that its ok to cry i cryed for ever when my dog died at only 4 years old and 3 years on when i think of him i still have a good cry.

again sorry for ur loss x

She was all I had. I always said that if something happened to her, I would have nothing. She was my angel. No matter what happened, she was there for me. I do feel I failed her, and I am sick at heart.

    It is surreal.

When my mother was dying, my mother said she would always be with me. But that did not happen. I took Sofie to work with me every day, so whenever I was in the car, either Sofie was with me, or I felt like Sofie was with me.

I have Puja, but she is not loving or attentive to me like Sofie was. No cat was ever as connected to me as Sofie. I miss her so much.

Elly, I am so sorry for your loss. You will always have your Sofie with you in your heart.

No cat was ever as connected to me as Sofie. I miss her so much. That's simply heartbreaking... Yet, I think you would be just as devastated if it had been Puja, but I do understand that 'special connection'!

Maybe Puja will surprise you, feel your pain, and try to console you.

That brings me to something that was much on my mind last night. Not knowing what happened to Sofie, you may want to disinfect their common areas.. litter boxes obviously, but food and water bowls.. just in case. Although the answer will always be 'blowing in the wind', it is worth asking your vet what he/she might suspect. Anything contagious? Although, something that sudden, makes me think of a heart failure, like in people. But of course, I am no vet.
A big hug to you and.. Puja!

Big (((HUGS))) to you Elly. My thoughts are with you.

Maybe Puja will surprise you, feel your pain, and try to console you.

This is entireley possible. When we lost our 5 month old kitten to FIP 5 years ago this December, on the heels os losing our older two cats, we were devastated, even more so because our remaining kitten was a bit shy and not attentive to us in the least (although she had addored our other kitten). Somehow in the month or two that followed, she became very bonded to me, and became very much affectionate and a total mush. I don't know if this was because she sensed my grief or needed comfort while dealing with the loss herself, but it happened no matter the reason.

I wish this for you and your Puja kitten as you grieve the lose of your Sofie.

I am so sorry. How awful to go through that. But you will see her again someday.

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This happened to me quite a few years ago. I found my cat Cricket dead from no apparent cause. I never knew what killed him. I know how you're feeling. When you are devoted to one another, it leaves a huge void. I hope Puja takes over in your heart.

Some animals are our heart animals and will always be with us in spirit. Sofie is yours. I know they sometimes return in the flesh, you will know by the light in the eyes and your heart will speak to her heart. She may have left the way she did so as not to watch you suffer. I am so sorry.

Gosh elly, what a beautiful picture. I am so sorry for your loss.

She was so beautiful, what a face! I am so sorry!

She was such a cute, pretty cat.

We never think when we bring home a cat or dog that there are no guarantees on how long we will get to have them. Like with people, they can have hidden conditions, sometimes present from birth, that can suddenly manifest themselves and they seem to die without explanation. I lost a dog in early January from a burst aneurysm--it was never detected at the vets, there was no hint or warning, he just died suddenly before we could do anything to save him.

I lost my other dog only a month ago. I felt about him as you did about Sophie, I think--he was with me constantly. He was under a vet's care when he took a sudden turn for the worse. Though he was being treated for Lyme disease, we don't think that was what killed him, and I tortured myself for a long time because I hadn't taken him for a second opinion, should have been more aggressive in his care. But the sad fact remains that he is gone and knowing or not knowing won't change that--all it does is make the grieving worse.

Be sad and heartbroken because your Sofie is gone, but don't tear yourself up with recriminations and doubt. She spent her life making you happy, and she wouldn't want you to hurt worse because you blame yourself.

    I am so sorry.

    Elly,

I found this on a Pet Memorial Site. I thought it was beautiful and says pretty much how I feel about my little dog I recently lost. I hope to put it on a marker for his grave.

    I Only Wanted You

They say memories are golden, well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you, a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.

Elly, this picture is worth a thousand words!!!
    Very touching memorial above!
    Thinking of you,

What a sweet, beautiful girl. May she rest in peace Elly....

My heart is breaking for you...I am so sorry. Perhaps someday, you will find another fur-baby that needs your love (and gets along with Puja), and that kitty will give you little kisses and cuddles to help heal your heart.

    Take care of yourself,

    Cathy

I am very sorry for your loss and know how you feel because the same thing happened to me with one of my cats a couple of years ago. He was also 5 years old. I got up one morning and found him dead. It's very hard.
    Take care,
    Anicée
