When I am raising a kitten, if it bites me, even a little, I shout, "Ow!" very loudly as though I were in terrible pain. That seems to stop them after a few times. I do the same if they scratch me.

I use toys to play with them, not my bare hands.

I also use nail clippers to carefully clip the sharp tips off of their nails every couple of weeks.
