bedrm makeover (ttodd inspired)

Just finished a bit of a room makeover. I don't have the ttodd gift for accessorizing, but for some reason the feel of the room reminds me of her home - possibly the colour?

It was all done on the cheap with paint being the biggest expense.

We changed the wall and door colour, hung a blind on the door window, switched the botanical prints for mirrors, made curtains out of flat sheets on sale for $5 each, bought new bedside lamps. Still need to find a bigger side table and make a headboard, but for now I'm happy with it.

Oh, also have to mention the antique furniture prints. I found them on ebay when I was searching for something else and then found the frames at Homesense on sale for almost nothing.

Love it! Those antique furniture prints are fabulous and the paint color is soooooo ttodd-ish.

Congrats on a job so well done! (Isn't it even better knowing that you did it on a budget.)

I think your room looks fabulous. Have you thought of carrying the black from th print frames to thw mirrors--spray paint frames--maybe too much-don't know. I really like the curtains--I am doing my bdrm too--I just purchased 2 pair of white cotton 90" curtains from Country Curtains & I am disappointed --yours look great! so that is sheets? good job

thanks guys and yes, it does feel wonderful to do it for a bargain - why is that?

the paint colour is called mystique but is from a Canadian store - Rona - mixed in their own brand. It's a couple of shades darker than silver sage which we have in our bathroom next to the bedroom. The door colour is Farrow and Ball's card room green. I was originally going to do the whole room in the F & B green, but decided to go more neutral and add accents later - still looking for some fabric to do pillows in.

Maybe not the mirror frames, debbi, but I see what your getting at. I could do some black accessory(s) on the top of the cabinet below the mirror. A black lamp might work too, but I'm kinda stuck keeping the torchiere as it was given to me special from my MIL.

Are the curtains you bought lined? If not maybe you could line them with sheets. I had purchased some narrow panels previous to making these and besides being too narrow to cover the window, they felt too flimsy because they weren't lined. Someone here also suggested doing an interlining with crinoline to give them body. I might try that too - if I feel like spending more money.

I'm on holidays for a couple of weeks and have had fun getting some projects done. DH was thrilled to actually get the room painted since I'd had the swatches all over the walls for the last several months.

Oh wow! I'm so excited for you and to actually have inspired somebody! Thank you! Love what you're doing!

Wall color looks great especially w/ all of the crisp white bedding and window treatments. The black rod is the perfect tiny touch that makes it look like a designer came in. Plus the black from the frames and wonderful prints are really bringing about a cohesive pulled together look.

I always like a bit of wood in any room - especially if it's an old piece like that fantastic bureau and mirror. I always think that it makes a place look like a home and that it's lived in and not like some designer jewel that nobody is allowed to touch anything in.

Would you consider trying that really pretty painted piece of art (currently on the wall beside your bed) over your bed instead of the 2 florals? Can we see what that would look like? I just think that might be such a pretty and serene look!

PS - your little one seems to be a helper!

BTW: Not sure what style headboard you're looking for but here's a link to a few to make. My favorite is the door headboard and I saw her make the tufted headboard on TV and it looked pretty do-able!

    Good luck and great job!

Well I'm just glad you're excited and not insulted ttodd. And thanks for that link - so many ideas! I was thinking I would look for an old headboard on CL and cover it with foam and a slipcover in some funky fabric, but I'm going to read thru the ideas on that link and see if any of them would work better. I love to read in bed and as you can see in the pic, the chimney makes a little jog in wall right where I lean back - most annoying.

I would love the painting over the bed, unfortunately the chimney seems to be made of kryptonite and it is almost impossible to get a nail into it. It took an hour to get the holes made for the two botanicals. But hang on a minute, the pic is much lighter, I bet I could use a command strip - I will try that.

And yes, I have two great little helpers at home. I work at my daughters school so when I get holidays so do they. A great scenario in most ways, but sometimes I (guiltily admit) it would be nice to have a day or two at home alone.
