HELP - Anyone happy with stranded bamboo floors?

We are about to get new floors and are leaning towards a darker stranded bamboo for its durability. We have two large dogs and three teen boys and hear these wont scratch or wear like hardwoods or engineered woods. My concern is that they look like laminates and sound hollow - have hand true hardwoods forever. Any advice is much appreciated!!

Take a look at some of the previous Houzz design discussions on stranded bamboo floors. The comments and recommendations are a bit contradictory, suggesting that it depends quite a bit on the supplier/brand, amount of resin, etc. Mind you, I know nothing about this first hand, I just want to make sure you get the full picture so you can ask some informed questions of your supplier, and know what you are getting into, before committing.

Strand bamboo IS NOT DURABLE, scratches and dents sooooooooo easily, most if not all mfg'd in china where no manuf. standards are policed. We ripped ours out after a year of above as well as massive expansion and then after our professional installer did repair, floor then shrunk 7 mos later, leaving gaps everwhere. the quality of laminates these days is AMAZING, looks just like hardwood, but does not scratch or dent. Love my new lam replacement. Don't buy costco's 'wellmade flooring inc." product. wELLMADE'S customer service is lousy once u have problems of ANY KIND.

I was at my brother's house recovering from back surgery. They had new stranded bamboo floor. I had to use a walker and saw a bunch of scratches by the couch where I was sitting. I told them I think my walker scratched the floor. They said the installers did that but never came back to fix it. Now 5 years later they hate the floors. There are a lot of scratches and gaps in the flooring. I would never install install them in my house. I had engineered flooring in my house for 16 years. I thought were laminate floors. That's what they told me. Hated them for years. Film that would show every time I cleaned them so after many years I used everything on the market to try to make them look better. Only one nick in the floor but they looked awful! So this fall I had them ripped out and put in vinyl. The kitchen looks like stone and the living areas look like rustic wood. Everyone thinks they are real. When installers took the old floor out they said they were engineered flooring. We have always had two dogs and this flooring does not show the hair balls! I love it! It is warm and feels like heated floors. Doesn't show drips from the dogs water Bowles or have to hear their nails clicking. They love to play hard in the house and no scratches! It looks like no film when washed! I used to work on my old floor and nearly cry every time when I was finished. Some people say vinyl lowers the value of your home. I think the happy home owner should count for something!

I love the look of bamboo floors, especially in modern homes. But look into how the product is made, there may be air quality issues.
