Window Coverings--Help!

I am not sure what type of window coverings to do in this room.

A designer friend told me we should do shades that go above the windows because it gives the illusion of bigger windows and a higher ceiling. I don't really like that idea because it would hide the moulding I love so much. So, would you do curtains? Or shades like I did in the kitchen (see below) which is right next to this room (all one open space)? Thank you for an help in advance!

What a lovely room! I would not do curtains, because the couch is in front, and it would look to busy up against the window. I think the shades like you did in the kithen would be gorgeous, and would make a nice contrast with those beautiful walls of yours! Cute dog, too!

    Absolutely beautiful spaces.

I don't know who the decorator was, but I'd trust his/her instincts concerning the finishing touches. If it was you, well, great job and carry on.

I love everything about it and it's not even my style. The rug, with the flooring and sectional, is wonderful too.

Don't quite get the "shades above the windows" suggestion by your friend. If you did curtains, I could see them with rings slightly above the moulding and stacked on the sides or shades done just like your kitchen.

Inside-mount shutters, blinds or Roman shades. You'll have such a wide range of choices among those three, and any of the three will add a bit more texture to the room, too.

I'd probably start with the Roman shade option, to keep that area consistent. The fabrics and fabric weights don't need to be the same, tho.

I just don't think the overall look of the room calls to mind traditional curtains or heavier draperies.

And your pup seems to love your decorating!

It's a beautiful room. I think that wood blinds mounted inside the window frame will be just the thing, reflecting the lines of that occasional chair.

fwiw, I think suero hit the target!

I would NOT cover that beautiful moulding, and think that the wood shades that suero suggested would an excellent choice.

BYW, both of your rooms are lovely, and your little companion looks right at home there.

I love your rooms!! If it was my LR, I would do inside-mounted bamboo shades in a heartbeat. They are very warm and have wonderful texture and I think it would really add so much to your space. If you don't need the privacy, I would even have them made up without a liner so that the light would filter through them---gorgeous!

Thank you all so much! This is EXTREMELY helpful! I love the photoshopped blinds! I'm a photographer and didn't think of doing that. What a great idea! Now I'm going to have to play around...

What would I do without this forum???

Do you need window coverings? Or is it purely a decorative thing? If you don't need them, I would consider leaving the windows plain.

If just decorative, I would think about a fabric valance to inside mount, just to bring some color (like some of the orange from the pillows)up onto the walls.

If it is about light filtering or privacy, I would look at some of the woven woods (check Smith and Noble for some ideas). The wooden blinds work, but I think you could find something with more color and texture.

A lovely space - and the smiling pup is just the perfect addition!

I vote for the same coverings as the kitchen (love your cabinets and floors!) or wood blinds, inside mount. If you want to draw the eye up to the peak hang a piece of art in that triangular space. Looks like a nice big comfy room!

Love your home, and those lights above the kitchen counter are great! As for the windows in the living room, definitely keep the woven wood look going. You could have them banded on the edges for some color if you needed to add something. I think the clean look of the shades (whether the woven-woods or fabric roman shades) give the look of a valance when pulled up, which is probably what you'll be doing most of the time. The two-inch blinds will be giving you a busy look with the horizontal lines, and they don't look so pretty if you pull them up.
