I have never heard of flys that sits still long enough for you to pick them off.

Take your dog to a vet. Gooey mess and flys that are so busy they don't care isn't dermatitis.

Oh, I've already asked a vet and she said that there is only one way to deal with it - insecticide (repellent).

I know it's dermatitis/fly bite. I'm just wondering what other insecticides or maybe physical protections might work.

gammyt - Telling people to "go to the vet" on this forum is unproductive - we all KNOW how to go to a vet! Vets don't have the answers for every situation. Many times ordinary people have good ideas. If "go to the vet" is your only suggestion, I suggest you don't waste anybodys time and refrain from posting. And yes, the flys can be plucked off when they are engaged in this activity - believe it or not.

vicky, I don't think gammyt's suggestion that you take your dog to the vet was a bad one. At any rate, I thought she was being sincere and showed concern for your dog.

I can't picture what you're saying. What's the dog's skin look like? And how many flies are on your dog at a time? Do the flies bother humans as well?

The fly reppellent sprays that are made for horses are normally safe for dogs and they don't leave the gooey mess like Swat does. They also make a spray reppellent for dogs called Fly's Off.

What kind of flys? 'Flea bite dermatitis' I've heard of. 'Fly bite??'

I guess that, like the vet suggested, there is no solution except putting on insecticide every day. YUCK!!
