Save me from myself! Dining room needs pattern

So, I posted about this on the "mistakes" thread. The dining room is mostly finished. Still searching for a small, dark pedestal table and a couple of chairs to go under the chandy.

I love the colors, love the light, love my accessories, but feel like it's still a bit bland and needs some pattern. I was looking at fabrics, and found this:

LOVE it! The swatch looks fabulous with the other colors in the room, so now, what to do? Since there are no chairs, buying fabric for imaginary chairs seems like a bad idea. As does making some sort of runner or table topper. I could make a runner for the buffet, but it's a large scale print, and you'd only see it from the side hall and the actual dining room. I walk past the dining room a bazillion times a day, and it's visible from that whole half of the house. I need *high yield* pattern. So, I'm thinking of stationary floor length panels for each side of the window.

Yes? No? Other ideas? Cheaper ideas? I'm thinking for the fabric and lining this will be about $150. Worth it?

What about the sheers? I hung those because the valance against the white blinds (which need to stay) just looked too stark. If I hung a panel out of that fabric on each side, would you keep the middle two panels of sheers, or take them down altogether?

What about a floor length skirt for the table under the chandy?

I don't know the weight or quality of the fabric, but what about getting a couple of parson's chairs covered in the fabric, if it is upholstery quality? Carrington Court will do COM (customer's own material).

I think rather than panels I would replace the valance with a cornice or pleated valance in that fabric. Your window takes up a lot of the wall space, and adding panels will take away the little bit of visual breathing room you have there.

Or, what about replacing the blinds with a roman shade in the fabric you love? You could keep the blue valance and get rid of the sheers.

The other thing you could do is buy a yard or two of the fabric, and cut out one of each of the major motifs in the fabric. Frame them in frames where the fabric fills the opening - though the frame itself could be very large.

Group them on the end wall where the cabinet is now, after moving the cabinet to the opposite wall. Move the buffet to the end wall under the framed designs.

I love the idea of framing the fabric, I wonder if I could get that past hubby. I have some fabric that I bought a long time ago for a project that I think will work really well in the dining room, but I don't have enough of it to do anything worthwhile. I could use it as trim on the drapes, but I'm not real handy with a sewing machine. I might have enough to make a buffet runner, but again, the sewing thing, LOL.

Very pretty. I like the idea of stationary drapes in your fabric, no valance and no sheers. Woven blinds will look great, if the window is not in front of your house therefore, you don't require the privacy of being able to see in during the day.

Upholstered chairs would be work nicely in that room in a fabric with texture to it. Don't be afraid to use blue.

Yes! It would be just the touch of pattern you need in the room & not over powering. I miss curtains with pattern, they've gone by the wayside for some reason and IMO, the pattern you chose is not only beautiful but classic too.

    Go for it!

    Are you getting table/chairs?

Is there a rug, if not are you getting a rug?

I love, love, the fabric but will take a different slant. Since most of your lovely accessories are light/white - I think you need wall color to warm up the room & make accessories pop.

I would remove the valance from existing window treatment & take pics - I think that would demonstrate how plain panels would look in the space. Why do blinds need to stay? are they open during day?

I'd use it for panels with the sheers, but lose the valance.
If you do paint, I'd wait until the fabric is hung to test out colors. You need to see it in its application to know.
I don't think you need to go dark, but if you want more color, I'd try a pale green, pulled from the fabric colors.

    Thanks so much!

Here's the details. No, still don't have table and chairs. I've been searching for months and haven't found anything I like that's either well made, the right finish, or in my budget.

The blinds need to stay. That window is right at the front of the house, so we do need them for privacy. I'm thinking about Les's suggestion for a roman shade out of the print, but I don't know...

Why don't you love the valance? I wanted something with color, and I wanted something that followed the curves of all of the surrounding arches. When the window just had the blinds, the horizontal break from the top of the window bugged me, because you could see it from most all angles from the perspective of the arch.

I don't want to add a rug. It would bug DH to no end to have to move a chair in and out on a rug. He's not picky about much, but when he is, there's no compromise.

The wall oposite the china cabinet is a built in cabinet. Originally the DR was bigger, and they turned part of into a pantry (in the adjascent hall), which created that weird bump-in space, so they added the built in. It took away a lot of floor space, and now there's that awkward corner with the built in. I need both cabinets because I collect old dishes and linens.

Parson's chairs would look fabulous, but that seems like a lot more expense and trouble than I was planning on. I'm not sure what the cats would do to those chairs, either.

I could always buy the fabric, hang it on one side for a few days, and if it looks horrible, return it.

I'm not opposed to painting, but it's way down on the list. The kitchen, which is just around the corner, is a pale jade green.

Love that fabric! I also like everything in the second photo - the furniture, candle sticks, mirrors, chandelier. I don't care for the valance or the sheers. Or the plates hung on each side of the window.

I think drapes in that fabric will be beautiful in your room. And if the walls have a hint of color the white furniture will look even better. So will the dark pieces you are still looking for. That fabric will bring a richness to the room wherever you use it.

I love that fabric and think your idea of adding panels is great. Especially if you could bring in more fabric/color on chairs. Maybe the cats couldn't harm a microfiber? Here is one pic I could find with all your elements:

Olychick, that's it!! That's the look I envisioned!! Thanks so much for that!

Here's a bad pic with the swatch and the valance, just so you can see the scale of the print. The swatch has the largest motif in the pattern.

My fear with this fabric is that I'll buy it without a plan, end up with either too much, not enough, or it will sit in a closet for ages because I don't know what to do with it. So, I'm either buying a specific amount with a definite plan, or I won't buy it all.
