Unresponsive script when clicking on threads?

For at least two days, I've been having problems opening threads. When I click on a thread, it stalls for several seconds, then a window pops up that says "Unresponsive script." The script is the same one (today at least) Script: http://graphics.gardenweb.com/stc/ivjs/new_s_code_iv.js:394

I click "stop running script" and the thread opens up. It doesn't affect every thread and I can't figure out any kind of rhyme or reason for it.

I saw that someone else was having this issue on the "WT? HD ad in the middle of thread list?" thread (that annoying ad placement is gone, yay) so I know I'm not the only one dealing with this. Anyone have a clue what's going on? Would love to be able to eliminate this delay.

I'm on Firefox and as far as I know I'm using the latest version.

That happened the other day to me a couple of times, but not since then. I'm on an iPad now, although I think it also happened when I was on the PC.

    Sorry you're having these annoyances!

Same here with Firefox. 2 days of this now.

Me too with Firefox. I've gotten around it by right clicking and opening each thread in a new tab, but it's annoying when I forget.

Me also! Same thing on two different computers!

Thanks, everyone, for letting me know I'm not alone. I've emailed Tamara (GW's tech trouble shooter) requesting help with this issue. Will let you know what she says when I hear from her. Hopefully soon!

    Grrrrrr....

Did anyone notice this started juuuust along the time they put those ads in the middle of the threads?

If you decode your pages, (which all can do) it quits on a particular line of code.

Guess what code that might be.

    You'll win a banana.
But I'm going to have to ship it to you.

Got a response from Tamara already. Here's her advice (coincidentally the same work around tracie.erin posted above).

    Hi Lisa,
The fact that you're running the latest version of FF is the problem. Not YOUR problem, but it's an issue that isn't playing nice with some of the site and ad codes, since FF updated to the new version last week. They are working on a fix, but in the meantime instead of clicking on a link that you want to open, if you right click it and choose 'open in new tab', you can avoid the script error. I know it's not optimum, but it's go-around. You can also try a different browser, but if you use IE9, you'll need to make sure that you've enabled the Compatability View or you'll get the same error.
    Best,
    Tamara

Not sure if "they" is GW or FF but either way, I hope "they" fix it soon.

Over on the Cooking forum someone posted this as a fix. I tried it and it works.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fix

I see GW has posted a note about it on the top of the main forum page.

If you don't feel like jumping through hoops download the YesScript add-on in the link above. It takes care of the problem.

Oops, sorry, I see now that this same issue was already mentioned in another thread about having trouble reading threads. Didn't put two and two together so I didn't realize I was bringing up a topic already discussed. Others on that thread also suggested adding YesScript to fix the problem.

It says it has been fixed, but I'm still having the problem with the popup and then having to stop the script before reading most posts.

It's fixed for me. Sorry to hear it's not working for you yet, marti8a. Maybe you should email Tamara and see if there's something particular to your computer or browser that is at issue. Her email is tamara.amey@nbcuni.com
