Framing Vent 'Chimney'

Greetings. We are remodeling the kitchen and will be installing a 48" range. Over that will be a 48" vent insert, mounted into a 54" "liner" and then vented through 10" pipe straight up and a 90 to an outside exhaust fan. we prefer the "mantle" look so there will be a decoratiove arched piece and shelf, but from there to the ceiling will be sheetrock painted to match the rest of the kitchen. As I am finishing framing the ceiling and am in framing "mode", I have a few questions.

1. In terms of the order of construction, I am assuming it is too risky to frame the chimney until after the wall cabinets are installed. Or would you folks simply go for it based on the cabinet layout and let good ole' molding hide any gaps?

2. ANother assumption is that the framing is no more exotic than standard 2x4 framing for sheetrock? As the vent, liner and piping will contain the gasses, I assume the rest is simple, and straightforward?

Thanks!!

Tom
