when will it stop?

I let my heart take over and my brain stopped. To make a long story short, I now have 2 extra cats, strays. One little black kitten 8 months who was getting beat up outside and took up residency in the garage, graduated to the sun porch and now runs the household. The other is a beautiful calico 3-4 yrs old that had been around all summer, finally let me pet her a month ago. She started looking in the window every night when it got cold and now she sleeps in bed with me.(we all have these stories) how did I go from 2 cats to 4 in less than a month? The problem is my 2 boys, both neutered 5 and 2 yrs old. Little Emma (black kitten) went into heat the day before her spay. These girls have driven the boys crazy. My older boy "Abner" has started to urinate and defecate outside the box. NEAR the box...but outside. He did this when we rescued our Ernie cat last year but stopped a week or two after Ernie was neutered. The girls are behaving well and were spayed on Monday. I am assuming Abner will go back to using the box once the girls "essence" has worn off. How long does this take? We have 4 cat boxes I clean 2x daily. I had really intended to take these girls to a rescue group but NOBODY is accepting cats right now, the pound will have them put down in just a short time so is not an option. I have put my boys in danger, DH will not tolerate the boys bad behavior for long though Abner is HIS cat that HE brought home 3 years ago and it was HIS idea to bring Ernie in last year. He has already stated that "he is starting to hate cats". I know there is going to be a period of "bad behavior" because of new cats and also the "female" thing but how long will it take before everybody "settles down"?
