railroad theme office

We are remodling a spare bedroom to use as an office. I would like to decorate in a railroad theme. I have enough accent pieces but would like some fabric to make curtains and throw pillows for the hide-a-bed. I would also like a rug to put in front of the hide-a-bed. Are there websites or catalogue that have these items in them. I get a catalogue that has all kinds of lighthouse items in it I was just wondering if there is one for trains. I am more interested in Union Pacific than I am Thomas the Tank Engine. More Union Pacific than anything else. Thank you

    How's this?

    union pacific fabric

    Here are some more:

union pacific signs and other fabrics

Here is another site, some are the same:

    union pacific fabrics

If you can't find a rug, think about buying a faux sisal and stenciling on the UP logo, or binding it with one of the fabrics you find.

Another idea would be to use some of the blue and white denim ticking to mix in. I think that is what the engineer used to wear way back when. If you can find a rug that looks like a RR crossing sign, that would be cool. Post your pix when you get done!

Here's an idea you might find interesting. I had a friend years back who had a miniature railroad track going all the way around his office. It was attached to a narrow shelf at about door height and he'd have his train going around it when he was working in his office. His home was actually an old railway station.

Thank you Les for the websites. I will keep looking for a rug. As far as a train to go around the room we had a wall unit set up in our basement in our other house. DH isn't really happy with the idea of a railroad theme in the office anyway. I have been collecting railroad accessories for several years and I thought that would be a good place to put them. I know have a digital camera so I can post a picture when I am done. It may be the first part of June before we get done. DH will go back to work Monday from his vacation so will just work on his time off from know on.

I wouldn't go to far in using a "theme" in a room like an office. I would use your train accessories and fabrics that coordinate, but don't necessarily scream "train". Otherwise you risk making the room look too juvenile.

What a fun idea! My grandpa was a RR engineer so I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this stuff. Here's a fun site for you...

Thank you for your coments. Thank you oceanna for the link to the website. We have a train clock that was given to us several years ago by DH sister. The focal feature is a wood carving in a shelf that our DD gave us last Christmas. I am trying to stick with UPRR decor rather than train as so much of the "train" is antimated and childish.

My father loved boats and fishing and his office was done in boating decor.

He also adored my mother. My mother was very reluctant but he finally talked her into driving his boat under the bridge at our local lake so that he could photograph her. He gave her lengthy instuctions and she bravely got into the boat. She was petrified. He went up on the short bridge over the lake with his camera. She drove the boat around, gave him a big smile and wave and under the bridge she went. He got a *beautiful shot* of her waving and driving the boat. Thank goodness he did because he was only going to get one chance.

That photo was blown up - HUGE! - and on the wall of his office for many years. When people would comment, he would grin and say "that is my first love" and nothing more... leaving the guest to wonder which one! He had a great sense of humor.

It was the only time she ever drove that boat.
