Window and Door Trim

I am painting my bedroom. The wainscoting is Behr Gray Heather, the walls are Behr Graceful Gray. I am paintin the chair rail and the baseboard moulding BM Carolina Plum to put a little purple back into my room.

Question is, because I painted the chair rail the Carolina Plum, is it necessary to paint the window and door moulding that color too, or is it OK to paint them an off white. I will eventually be replacing my closet and bedroom door, which right now are the pine kind, but want the 6 panel door, which will probably be painted and off white color as well.
Thanks,
Kathy

I can't offer an opinion on the window and door trim without seeing the whole room, but I think if it were me, I would paint that outlet cover the same as the beadboard, so it is less noticable, rather than making it a focal point.

ahhhh...I see your point sujafr! That particular outlet will be covered by my dresser, but I will keep that in mind for the rest of them!

It's always nice when outlets manage to be out of sight, so that's great it'll be behind the dresser.

I was thinking more about your question and tried to visualize the rest of the room by the windows and doors. Since beadboard, such as you have, is usually used in settings that aren't ultra contemporary, I like to be fairly traditional and consistent with trim to avoid a disjointed look. Of course, you should do what you think works best for you, but I'd be inclined to paint all the base and window/door trim your off-white color, and use the plum as accents in some other way, such as pillows, in curtains, wall hangings, etc. I think painting the beadboard cap the same as the beadboard would provide a smoother flow in the room and then have your off white base and trim so there wouldn't be too many competing elements. Now that's JMHO, so feel free to ignore it! I love beadboard and think you'll have a beautiful BR!

I checked on houzz.com for pics of gray beadboard, and it's done various ways there, in case you want help visualizing it another way.

I agree with sujafr; if you love it, then you should do what you want, but I don't think painting the trim on the wainscoting is the best way to bring the colors you want into the room. I'd do all the trim off-white and if you want plum, then use bedding, window coverings and accessories, rugs, etc. to bring in the plum elements. It could be smashing with that grey beadboard and off-white trim as a backdrop.

So many beautiful rooms in those pictures! Alot of those picture have white beadboard, which I think looks awesome, however with having 3 cats, 2 dogs and being a smoker, white just isn't a viable option for me.

I would take a picture of the whole room, but it is a mess. I am not able to move the stuff out of here. So basically have to move stuff around so I can paint, then move it back so I can go to bed. LOL I bought a new much smaller computer desk and I am moving everything around. Once I figure out the trim, I am moving the dresser (which is long and short, not the tall 5 drawer kind) to the wall in the picture and my computer desk to the wall to the right. Right now, my bed sits in that corner.

I am worried about the flow into the hallway and the other rooms. However, our whole house needs to be painted and the only reason why it is not is because color is intimidating to me. LOL

I am planning on doing somehing like this, in plum/purple and perhaps stencilling some butterflies or flowers on some of the canvas.

In the link above, it's the painted headboard I want to do, the link didn't really work right.

Perhaps I will do all the trim including the chair rail and baseboard in BM Steam. My bedding has purple in it, and I was thinking of ordering custom cellular shades in plum and along with the headboard i'd like to do perhaps the accents will be there!
