It almost sounds like a form of acne. One of my cats used to get that and it was caused by her plastic food dish - a reaction to the bacteria that builds up on the plastic. We switched to ceramic bowls and never had another problem.

Sounds like acne to me, too. Clean the bumps with hydrogen peroxide and apply an antibiotic ointment. Replace all plastic food and water bowls with ceramic or stainless steel.

ditto what was said above--our one cat would get large bumps on her chin. The vet said it was a form of (feline) acne. We also cleaned her chin with hydrogen peroxide when she'd get a bump.

I think she stopped getting the bumps when we switched our cats' food and water bowls from plastic ones to Correlle (glass).

Our mastiff is allergic to plastic and used to get bumps that looked first like acne, then they'd open and bleed (if untreated) after he played with plastic toys. The vet's diagnosis was folliculitis -- 2 weeks of antibiotics cleared it up. We never had any luck with other remedies (sulphur soap, hydrogen peroxide, topical antibiotic creams).

Sounds like your dog might have folliculitis too. If it goes long untreated secondary bacterial infections move into the skin, and the area is further aggravated by the dog's scratching. I'd suggest bringing the condition to your vet's attention promptly.

Our mastiff can't play with any plastic toys. His food and water bowls are stainless steel, and we disinfect them after each use. We also clean his face twice a day to keep him more bacteria-free. Haven't had a problem since. However, even with stainless steel bowls, if we don't clean them and clean him daily, he is more prone to folliculitis, especially when the grass is growing.

Have it checked by your vet asap - my border collie developed this issue and when a scraping was done, it was discovered to be a form of mange!

The vet gave me an ointment and some pills and they took care of it, but I still have to watch for it. It also manifests itself in the arm pit and between the toes anywhere that isn't too hairy.

Thanks for all the suggestions all. He's been a little mopey the last few days, I think his lyme is back. (for those of you that arent in the Northeast its pretty common and they need to be on antibiotics.) So I will bring the bumpy lumps to the vets attention and see what he has to say. Thank you gain.

I have a 4 year old lab that has the same issues, since age 2, along with ear infection and skin itchiness on his paws. Originally it was said to be chin acne, but it went form chin acne, to itching all over (paws, ears and belly). Ultimately, he was diagnosed with food and enviromental allergies. For him, eliminating corn, soy, wheat and other grains helped almost 80%. He also can not eat out of plastic.

I also have some similar issue with my chihuahua under his chin just lately is red and bloody at times he licks his paws a lot we used Benadryl. Is this ok ? ! Also he did have a bacterial infection about 2. Months ago on his lip. The vet gave him some antibiotics and it cleared up wondering if this is the same thing any suggestions.
