Im currently building a house and debating what type of flooring to put in. In the house that I'm now selling, I have dark hand scraped oak floors that are beautiful but were scratched by my two 100lb dogs. Everytime the doorbell rings, these guys sprint and leave claw marks wherever their starting point was. In the new house, we'll have the same dogs, plus a pool so I'm looking for a very durable hardwood that will remain unscathed. Right now, I'm looking at:
- engineered hardwoods but have doubts this is strong enough
- laminate wood floors but don't want it to look or feel cheap
- porcelain 'wood' floors but since this is covering most of the first floor, am concerned there might be hollow spots since that often happens laying tile

Any design advice is much appreciated!
