Kitchen design with pics

I am going to try this again. Thanks for all the help with posting pics!

Took the corner pantry out of the original design and planned a wall pantry with microwave. What we didn't plan for was the pantry to look so obtrusive to the rest of the house. It feels like the side of the pantry is jutting into the living area. The pantry location was originally supposed to be a desk which would transition the area better than a pantry.

Would the cupboards above the desk be sufficient for baking supplies (soda powder etc) That side of the island will be my baking prep zone. I will keep flour, sugar in island. Vinegar, oils beside stove. Mainly need pantry space for small amount of cans, large cereal boxes, crackers and a few baking supplies as mentioned. We also have a mudroom that can house bulk pantry supplies. The designer made the pantry angled to decrease the bulk (originally 2 feet deep).

We don't like the microwave beside the sink (can be seen from living room)but this might be the only location if we decide on the desk instead of pantry so any thoughts on this would be appreciated also.

Thoughts on pantry vs desk or anything else? TIA.

Why don't you have a set of open shelves or a cabinet with a set of shelves, in a hutch arrangement that faces directly out instead of the side of the pantry? It will take 12" away from the pantry but it would solve the issue of looking at the side of something.

The other, cheaper option would be to shorten the pantry slightly and put a wall on the end. It would separate the kitchen slightly and would be good spot to hang a picture or something.

Thanks! The wall is a great idea.

Here are two of your drawings...desk and pantry.

Have you thought about glass uppers, on the two upper cabinets, furthest from the sink, on the left? That would be close to the dining room and a place for your 'nice' dishes.

Since you have the prep sink on the island, could you put the microwave there, too? Or is there room to put it, between the fridge and range, so you don't see it from the more dining/living rooms?

Then maybe have a narrow pantry, with desk next to it? Maybe more glass uppers (I think that's what Pal suggested) over the desk...or even make it a baking area. A lower countertop would be perfect for that. If you like an 'unfitted look' in the kithchen, you could have one countertop for the majority of the kitchen, a second one on the island (maybe wood) and a third on the desk/baking area...maybe marble? Too much or fun idea? :)

Personally, as soon as I saw the angled design I quit looking. Because this is an interior, not an exterior angling, the room has an artificiality that rankles.

I'm with florantha on this. I don't like all these angles. I don't understand how the overhead view matches the desk view. It looks like there are more cabinets surrounding the range in the desk view than in the overhead view and the pantry view. Do the cabinets cut across the corner as they appear in the overhead view or do they go into the corners as they appear in the other views.

The perspectives seem to be all out as well and it's hard to get a real feel for the space. For eg - where the fridge is would really irritate me as I don't see anyone being able to work or stand to the right of the range without getting in the way of whoever wants to open a fridge door. And hopefully that isn't a lazy susan corner cabinets door in that same corner. But perhaps there is more room than your drawings show.

It conforms to the angled stairs in the floor plan. The angle is a given in the plan unless it is blocked out as an oddly shaped pantry. It wasn't created in the cabinetry, the angled wall defines that part of the room.

I guess I'm not explaining my problem very well (and seriously does anyone actually care). I can see where the "desk" section follows the staircase angled wall on the overall floorplan with the rest of the space being u-shaped with an island. Unfortunately the kitchen in the overall floorplan does not match what is actually being suggested as the final kitchen plan. The island has now been angled to follow the desk wall, the corner cabinets appear as if they are also being angled across the corners (as part of the look as opposed to following any other wall angles).
It's becoming messy and actually unless there are some measurements I guess I actually shouldn't be commenting. I'm having trouble following the perspectives of the space.

Ah, I see, the cabinet's also angled on the one perspective; it's not on the floorplan. I recommended putting a short wall there to conceal the side of those cabinets altogether.

As for the angled corner cabinets on the range wall, I would do 90 degree cabinets and get rid of those extra angles.

    I agree.

Thanks for the input. Our plan was bugging me and it`s helpful to get different perspectives. Unfortunately the fridge is probably too close to the range and can`t be moved. The range can move but would look weird offset on the wall.

blfenton, it is confusing lol. Every pic is from a different design change. The floorplan had the range in a different spot with better distance from fridge (wish we hadnt taken out the corner pantry!) and the island was given a sink. In the desk picture we added more cabs to range wall to make up for pantry space lost. I will post a pic of the house we were working from to give another perspective. What would you do in the corner cab if you didn't do a lazy susan?

This design bugs me too. I thought it was all worked out until the framing started and the pantry seemed to become part of the living area. Any more suggestions would be helpful although we can`t change the appliance locations.

Lavender_lass your suggestions were super helpful thanks. The baking area is intriguing. We actually were going to add glass to those far two cupboards by the sink and already planning on a dark brown counter around the perimeter and and a marbled concrete in the island. Not sure if it would be too much to add another countertop there but I will think about it.
