Bubblers

Just about to start a new build in Phoenix. Our design includes 3 "telescopic step bubblers". These are placed in 3 separate locations throughout the pool at varying depths. After doing an obscene amount of research on this forum (this is my first post), I'm now a little confused. Does the pipe need to pop up out of the pool floor for areas that are just 6" deep? One of ours will be on a baja shelf and if the telescoping aspect can be eliminated at such a shallow depth I'd seriously consider moving all three to this location. My builder said than when these devices are "on" they're very susceptable to damage. With 5 and 7 year old boys they will most definently be broken off so we'll be forced to enact a strict "no bubblers while swimming policy" which may be kind of a drag. But, if we can have them all permanently flush with the floor of the baja shelf we'd do it that way. Thanks.

    You can place bubblers on the first step level at 6 inches of water depth very easily.
    Use standard wall fittings and a "C or D" eyeball.
    Steer clear of telescoping bubblers when you have boys or big dogs.

    I used standard eyeball fittings @ a water depth of 9" and it works fine. I had 1.5" female threaded pipe flush with the pebbletec so I could change out the eyeballs easily. There are 3 bubblers on a single feed.

    Do these eyeballs shoot water a good height above water level? Like say 24", or do they just sort of "bubble up" like bump. I'll be using the pentair vs pump, by the way, so I should be able to give it some oompf.

    I have two bubblers (non-telescoping) in 6 inches of water on the tanning ledge. Look like a pool return fitting. They are plumbed to a second pump which also supplies three other water features. The variable speed pump will give you a lot of flexibility. Running it at 2,500 RPM with the other features on and the valves not even open all the way to the bubblers, they shoot up one foot above the water. Opening the valves up and turning the pump higher they will easily get well over 2 feet out of the water. I find the one foot height to be plenty.

    I would suggest having each bubbler plumbed with its own valve to allow you to control each one independently. If the plumbing is longer to one bubbler, or if one sits in more water it will be tough to get them all the same height unless you can control them all separately.

    Great. Thanks for everyones help. I'll relay this info to my PB and do a little rearanging to get them all positioned in 6" - 9" of water. This will work so much better!

    True Blue Pools in Tempe. Was a tough call between them Presidential and Shasta as they were all within about $500. True Blue seemed the most honest to us. Gave us the price, no discounts, no special offers, just the price. Shasta and Presidential were a lot more car salesmen like in their approach, but I've heard great things about both of them. I've been watching your build since it closely resembles ours.

    I hope you catch this post as I'm building a pool as a DIY and I have a bubbler plumbed on a sun shelf. I've been looking for a fitting that has two or three holes (for the water) and is relatively flat so it doesn't project above the pool finish and be a toe stubber. Is there such an thing as this or am I looking for the impossible to find?

    It sounds like several of you are using eyeball fittings which I hadn't thought of. And Kelly, what is a C or D eyeball fitting? I'm not familiar with that terminology.
