I had the same question last year - I really wanted speakers out at the pool but did not want to have them wired to a system in the house, which is what most people do, I think. I got two Cambridge Sound outdoor speakers and a small cheap stereo system and ran the speakers to it. We can listen to radio, cds or plug ipods into it. The biggest problem I had was trying to find something to put the stereo system in. I ended up getting a wooden kitchen cart type thing at Target which worked fine but has not fared well from the weather. The sound system is fine but the cabinet doesn't look so hot right now. Might try to paint it. Hope this helps. What I can't figure out is, if you have your speakers running into a system that is in your house, do you have to keep running into the house if you want to change song/volume, etc. This is why I wanted the system outside.

We have a Bose system inside with 2 zones (inside and outside) and the remote uses radio frequency? so it works all the way to the pool. I'm sure there are other brands which use the radio freq too.
