Calling the Rug Gurus

I am redecorating my family room. We have purchased a gorgeous glam sofa/sectional from Natuzzi. The sofa is a little longer than 10' long. The chaise is about 63". The width of this room is 14 feet, and it's "family room area" is about 21' long (it's part of a great room with the kitchen.

Here it is:

My floor is dark cork, and the walls are a silver/gray. I am hooked on the idea of a gray and white zebra rug. I have found 2 online that interest me. One is from West Elm, description says: Pure looped wool: ($749 for 9x12)

And the other one I found is by Surya. Description says: The Mosaic MOS-1001 from Surya is a Hand Tufted area rug made from 100% New Zealand Wool: (found it for $542 for 8x11 @ Floormyplace--others have it for $1400+)

So, I need advice.

1. Anybody heard of Floormyplace?

2. I have no idea about carpet/rug descriptions, so none of what they are telling me means anything! Any help?

Do you like one better than the other? The Surya one has wider stripes. Does the scale of the room play an impact on which one would look better?

Thanks so much for your help.

Not one of the rug gurus, but I like the Surya rug, although I think either would work. I don't know what they mean by a 'looped' wool rug. I have one tufted rug and they can get little pulls. I've heard you can trim those, but I haven't bothered yet since we now don't have the rug where it gets much use.

Your room will look amazing when you finish it-fabulous sofa and colors and rug-wow. Please post pics.

I don't know a thing about rugs but I like the looks of the West Elm rug BUT I'm in a symmetrical stage right now. :) Your room will look amazing with either rug.

pretty sweet set up. Just be careful with the looped rug if you have a dog or a cat.

My vote is for the West Elm rug because it looks more like a Zebra. I do have a tufted rug for the FR and am having regrets since two months later it is still shedding terribly and it gets all over our clothes if we sit on the floor. Hopefully the looped rug would not have that same problem. I think I also like the dimensions of the West Elm rug better as well; though I would try to plot out on graph paper or floor using painters tape how the sectional and rug would fit together in your space. Purchasing the correct size rug for your furniture and room is key to getting a cohesive look.

BTW, I love your choices. Can't wait to see the completed pics.

Oh geez, was my dh right? Do you guys think that the picture with the couch is my room????? That's just a picture of the couch, it's a stock photo.

Anyway, we are going to get ourselves in to the West Elm store, and check out their rug. Suddenly after I posted this my dh voiced his opinion, whereas prior, he was silent. He is pulling for this one because it is larger, and that would be better. So, hopefully IRL we like the West Elm one. I really want it to be in the house, on the floor before the sofa arrives.

Thanks for the opinions, and I am sorry if anybody thought that the first picture was my room.....
