Split Foyer Kitchen Reno

My husband and I dreaded cooking in our little split foyer galley kitchen. We were always in each others' way. After months of planning, we tackled the job. My husband did most of the work himself. The wall between the kitchen and living room was removed, hardwood floor was extended into the kitchen, new cabinets and appliances were installed.

roofjamie - The kitchen itself was 8' by 12'. The eat-in area added another 10' in length. We bumped the island out 4" from the original wall placement (into the living area) to add space inside the kitchen. The living area is about 14' by 15'.

Just gorgeous! I live in a split entry as well and wanting to open it up. Between the kitchen and dr, the wall was removed from previous owner. That wall you took out for the island; my husband said Is a supportive wall and we can't remove it. We have cathedral ceilings. I wonder if that is the difference?

Our house is a modular so the wall we took down wasn't load-bearing. The trusses run the right way. Good luck!

fourboyzwatts, I have the same thing. I believe you can take down the wall but you have to put a header in. (3K here in MO). My offensive wall has 2 air return vents so I'm wondering about that. Also, there is a great pic on here of a reno with a pillar supporting the wall that I'm considering. It's on my Houzz site.
