Under cabinet lights... help needed

Greetings!

Question on a DIY project regarding under cabinet lighting.

I was able to successfully install the puck style lights in my townhouse, but with the kitchen in my new house the layout is a little tougher.

Here is the townhouse kitchen... I was able to easily connect all cabinets, with the power cables running across the top, and plugging in behind the fridge. I wasn't able to work in the 2 door cabinet to the left of the pic.

Now my new house kitchen is really broken up... cabinets separated and the fridge on the other side of the room (to the left of the stove)

Is it possible for cabinet lighting with this new kitchen?

Thanks!!

Edit... not sure if this would be the right time to look into the under cabinet lights, but we are also planning to put in a back splash... so maybe I should call our electrician to see what hard wire routes he could take?

If anything had to be done to the back walls then maybe the back splash and help cover up the wiring work?

I'm not 100% sure what the electrician would do, but just tossin that option out there.

    Thanks again for your thoughts!

I'm sure he can come up with something if you're willing to cut out and repair sheetrock. Only problem would have to be a separate light under cabinets on the end (foreground of picture) since I don't think he could run it under the window - doesn't look like you have space to trench and repair there. I want to add lights too, have similar cabinet layout, would love to see your solution. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I am not sure the route that can be taken with that window there.

I plan to have the back piece of granite removed prior to the back splash work, but there is just a little piece of granite under the window.

I would leave the granite i place and do the backsplash over it. I didn't see that the window casing comes all the way down to the granite b/s, sure can't run anything there. Even if you pull the granite out, that 1-2" is too tight to work in. Plan on putting separate light (with switch and transformer if necessary) to the right of the sink.

Just curious - how high off the counter are the bottoms of your cabinets? Maybe it's the dark color or the granite b/s but it looks very close...

From the top of the granite piece to cabinet it is 13"... if I remove the granite piece it would be 17" from counter to cabinet bottom.

Must be the dark granite. Looked like 12" or something.

It's very easy to cut into the drywall and run power feeds from your outlets. Maybe not the ideal solution but not unsafe either.

If you are installing a backsplash then you don't even have to worry about making the drywall look nice again.

Thanks sailormann... I spoke to the electrician of our new house and he said it could be done and also stated that the backsplash would make the clean up job a little easier.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - going to do the same thing. Only problem would be running the same line over to the right of the sink. May have to do separate light/switch there.

I am going to take out switch for my GD while I'm at it and use an air switch. Never knew you could buy them separately (had one with whirlpool in last house) until it read it on this forum!
