Mudroom complete (pics)

Thought I'd share a few pics of our completed basement mudroom. We have an entrance from the garage through the basement -- so while finishing the basement we added a mudroom w/a couple of extra closets. Now there is a place for everything -- coats, back packs, shoes, sports equipment, etc. -- no more stuff dropped on the floor when they come through the door! Organization makes me happy!!

Beautiful! I'm so jealous. I love my house, but I'd love it more if it had a mudroom!

Gorgeous. We are in the process of designing our mudroom and I may just "borrow" a few of your ideas. You must be in heaven!

Did your kids learn to use the mudroom without too much training? We plan to do a mudroom too, and I would hate it if my kids continued to dump their stuff on the floor rather than my beautiful lockers.

Your new mudroom is simply gorgeous. Did your trim carpenter make the lockers, or did you get them through a cabinet maker?

    Enjoy your new welcoming space!

Thanks for all the kind words!

Natal, we went back and forth on whether to have doors or not -- I was afraid of it looking too much like a locker room. But I am glad we went with doors to hide all the junk. The photos on houzz and magazines of open mudrooms always look great -- but they are staged so perfectly. Ours will not be pretty behind the doors.

Ontario, so far the kids have been using them -- but we'll see what happens when the newness wears off. I am guilty of not always putting my shoes in the drawers. Not sure if the drawers are the best option for shoes as it would be nice to kick them off -- but they do look neater than an open space.

Our gc did make the lockers -- he ordered the doors and drawer fronts. We showed him a bunch of pictures we liked from houzz (and GW threads)and he came up with the plan.

WOW!! I sure wish I had had something like that when I had kids at home. I even had a perfect room for it. Great idea ! c

Beautiful! Makes me wish we had "mudrooms" in FLA...well, they are uncommon here.

This setup is functional however I must state that the person getting locker one closest to the door, must wait to go in last or their shoes end up near locker 2 or 3. There is no way they can get to the locker with the door open. My kids squabble about this and I am just too weary to hear of it so I just let them "share" because no one wants that locker. Also the stuff will most likely be on the sit down area versus in it, as that is just want kids do. I think you need a door stop on the garage door so that the locker one bench does not get dinged.

Peyton, it's not real clear in the photos -- but the doors pictured here on either side of lockers are actually walk-in closets. The doorway to garage and stair way to first floor are in a separate hallway -- so shouldn't be a problem. There are door stops on each of the closet doors to prevent banging. Thanks!!
