In my experience the test strips are junk as well as the hayward controls. The pool store is closest and you need your first hayward warranty call.

Fresh water would need aprox. 26 lb. per 1000 gal.

Hey thanks for the reply hot shot. Turns out my pool wasn't balanced - chlorine level was way to high. It's comming down, and salt level is going up on Pro Logic. As for hayward controls, well they seem fine and do what I need them to do. I wouldn't say they were junk. Anybody else think they are junk?

I've got the PS-8 and had one panel replaced and now am having trouble w/ this one. Still, probably just a software issue this time and I just haven't got to the fix (has to do w/ the multi-function control capabilities.) If I was to do it all over again I'd probably go a different route, but generally it's been ok.

I'd urge you to buy a titration test kit...that way you'll know exactly what concentration you're running. My unit usually is about 200ppm less than actual test, but consistently so. The test strips are generally unreliable.

My IC40 says 2700, electronic salt meter says 3400. Got a salt titration kit and it says 3400.

Problem is that if my salt goes below 2500 on the chlorinator, it stops working even though salt is really over 3000.

What a pain.

Hayward themselves had such confidence in this product that after they bought it they changed the warranty from 5 years to 3 years.

Just so happens I have a 4 year old AquaLogic and no problems including still on my first cell. I also, have 2 Northstars that Mike hates so much and they too are without any problems. Gee, I must be the only one on the planet that hasn't had a problem with Goldline/Hayward equipment :-).

Yeah, Mike is pretty biased and straightforward, but has a point. I had the PS-8 panel fry year 2; the Northstar 2hp motor seize year 3; the swg cell replaced year 3; and now I'm having problems (software, I think) w/ this panel and it won't communicate properly anymore w/ my desktop and poolside remotes.

All this compared to the Sta-Rite equipment my neighbor used w/ NO problems and the neighbor down the street w/ Pentair and NO problems.

However, they don't have all the automation or swg, either.

Oh yeah, I also had one of the Automated valves (actuator?) replaced a couple of months into the system.

I've been lucky since it all fell under warranty, but now what?

I suspect Mike is one of those guys who fiercly argues Ford v. Chevy, etc., but there may be a legitimate point somewhere in there.

I have yet to replace a Pentair intellitouch board that wasn't under warranty. I installed my first over 6 years ago.

Aquarite control boards, I think I have replaced 30, and that is about the number of them I have installed.

OK...

So maybe Lexus v. Suzuki?
