How do you do a modern cottage look?

I have always leaned towards contemporary but am about to try a style flip and go cottage for an awesome A frame house I should be closing on within the next couple of weeks. I have always liked the chic waaay more than the shabby. I got a suggestion to do modern cottage but am trying to figure out how.
