What does everyone recommend for midgrade appliances?

Whirlpool, GE, kitchenaid, etc.

I'm having a hard time finding reviews.

One site gave a whirlpool fridge 5 stars...another gave it 1.

I've also read a lot about the self cleaning ovens breaking down? thoughts?

Have you tried the Appliances Forum?

In general, it's best to find the best maker for each appliance in your range. Some are better at refrigeration, others better at cooking, and still others are better at washing.

Didn't realize there was a separate forum for that. thanks! Well, how does everyone feel about their appliances not matching?

The only two appliance in my kitchen that match are the wall oven and the microwave, since they'll be built into the same cabinet. (All will be stainless.) I picked appliances balancing function and cost, and the brand of the winner in each category was different. Doesn't bother me!

We ordered a Blue Star range, a Miele dishwasher, a Samsung refrigerator and a Sharp microwave drawer. I guess I'm OK with not having to have them all match.

Ok with them not matching - Bluestar range, Wolf steam and single oven, Miele DWs, Broan compactors, Sub Z and Electrolux.

Pick the best for function in your budget.

    Enjoy shopping for your appliances.

When it came to the stove and OTR MW we went with GE Profile...we had GE for the 15 previous years without any breakdowns or repairs. For the fridge we got a good deal on Kenmore Elite CD FD...it's really an LG. I Ilike it so far. We got a Bosch 800 series DW. We got the stove, MW and DW online from Number1Direct out of St Louis. They were great...everything arrived when they said it would, was packed and crated very well...no problems....we saved about $1000.

I agree you should look at each appliance individually. I've got an LG fridge, getting a GE range and a Bosch dishwasher. Consumer Reports is good for looking at brand reliability and sometimes for looking at individual models. I can tell you that various models of Bosch dishwashers are the top 6 or 7 ones reviewed by CR. Keep looking, the reviews are out there. And you can always ask here at GW.

None of ours match either. I think it is a GW thing, lol.
The advice about the best individual piece for each function makes so much sense.
I'd expand that to the exterior finish as well, since we have white, black and ss finishes, but I don't think we'd get too many agreeing with that! Each one of ours was chosen to fit in, but also for its function and look. In a white, black and gray kitchen, one has latitude on appliance exteriors.

    Same here
    Elux fridge
    Miele DW
    Wolf Oven
    GE 240 Advantium speed
    Wolf Induction cooktop
    Broan hood (CFM codes!!!!!!)
DeLonghi countertop convection (aka toaster oven on steroids)
    Function over fashion!
Glad to see I am not alone on this.
The advantage of all one type of appliance is larger discounts - but one company offered a free DW and why replace my Miele with a lesser DW?
    Good luck

Mine don't match either. GE Cafe range and fridge (chosen based on my own long term experience in reliability of GE products), Bosch DW, Vent-a-Hood, Panasonic MW. I'd say that mine are mid-grade appliances as opposed to others mentioned here. Bluestar and Wolfe? - don't think so. For me, those are definitely high end.
