TV in kitchen?

Do you have a TV in your kitchen? I do, it sits on the counter right next to my sink. We mostly use it if one of us is in the kitchen doing dishes, but that's pretty much it. I don't want to get rid of it, but I'm thinking there's probably a better place for it than my countertop. We're not doing a gut reno so I can't start from scratch. I do have an area w/my micro and a cabinet above it...we're planning take out the micro and cabinet and make it wine storage, so I supposed I could put the TV in there. The only problem is that area is straight ahead when you walk in the kitchen so I worry it would be a focal point.

Sorry for the longwinded post...can you share what you did with your TV if you have one and post pics if possible?

Thanks so much!

We have a 22" flatscreen TV on a swing arm on the wall. IT's located where the peninsula meets the wall and is right beside my prep sink. Great location. When you come into the kitchen from one direction you would notice it if it was on. When we have company it's off and is quite flat and our peninsula has longer shaker style supports with fancy pendant lights and that's what you notice - not the TV.

I'll see your counter and raise you an island. I was given a 22" flat as a "kitchen warming" gift. It's on a slate turntable so can face the prep zone or the eating area. I was going to recess it into the pantry or something, but got real and put it where people want to watch it. As light as it is, it's easy to undo the cords and stash in the pantry if I don't want its black-hole self ruining the look of the kitchen.

Blfenton, do you have pictures you could post of your TV setup? I ask because we're trying to decide where to put a TV in our backporch area that we're converting into a breakfast nook. It's an odd space and one of the ideas is to put it on a shelf with something similiar to what you're talking about.

My set up is like Blfenton's. TV is mounted on a swing arm so that it can be swiveled to the right to view from the working part of the kitchen or to the left for viewing from the dining area.

Here is a link that might be useful:

Can you find mine? It's flipped up out of sight right now, on left of range. When pulled down the screen rotates so it can face peninsula sitters or the cook.

Voyageur brand. Has CD/DVD player and radio. I have some gripes on design of the product, but am glad to have it. Don't have a proper photo of it in use. Here it is seen from back side in hall so you can see size, over the drill.
