I called Pentair and they told me that 3-4 degrees of shift before the heater kicks in is typical.

I was surprised to hear that this range is not tunable and my PB says that it varies from pool to pool. How can that be?

Do you have an automated control system? The water sensor for that unit may be falling out of calibration and is in conflict with the heater and its sensor.

Yes, i have an i7 Intellitouch. All pentair gear all around.

Get a good water temp in the water from a thermometer and then kick on the pump and see what the IntelliTouch water sensor is giving you. I'm guessing there will be a difference in the two that is equal to what you are pointing out.

Or, what type of heater do you have? There's one more thing to check.

I have a minimax 400.

As for the temp difference, I've done that with the pool and adjusted the temp +1 degree to accommodate the difference. I'm less worried about the absolute temperature rather the delta from the set point to when the heater kicks back on and the accuracy with which it turns off again.

Absolute can be an issue if you are out of calibration but it does not seem to be the case. Example, owner says the spa is only heating to 94. Automation temp sensor reads 76 and water temp is 83. The difference on the sensors is the difference in the total heat up. With a set point to 101, the water will only heat to 94 and the heater gets blamed. The actual fault is the sensor.

With a MM400, you are dealing with potentiometers and they do go bad. You may want to look at replacing those. They are not reliable when they are older.

I actually have a master temp 400. Sorry for the bad info. I was doing this from memory. Here is a bit more data since my wife had the girls over tonight, I could watch the system go.

I set the temp to 100 on the control panel for the i7. The heater is brand new and was reading 96 at the time, while the controller was reading 98. Also a floating themometer pretty much agreed with the i7, so there is not a large cal issue if there is any at all.

Okay, so far, so good. The heater ran until the i7 panel was reading 100, around when the heater was reading 98. It actually overshot a bit and raised it to 101 once the excess heat was factored in, but pretty good.

It seems like the controls are right. My equipment is not far from the spa and it is not a huge spa, once it reaches temp it seems pretty stable.

Only odd thing I noticed is that the heater when running had the "pool" temp light lit. Otherwise, maybe I'm just expecting better temp control than I should. Seems that after a delta of 2 degrees, the controller should kick the heater back on, but maybe 3-4 is more normal.

Bottom line is if all is in calibration, should I expect the i7 to "hold back" from boosting the temp until the temp falls 3-4 degrees?

I have the easy touch remote. The water temperature on the pentair reads 112 degrees F. I try to calibreate it in Service mode on the control panel (not the remote), but it always sets back to 106-112. Needless to say the heater never turns on. What or where do I look to try to re-calibrate the system to normal water temp. (thermometer in the pool actually reads 82 degrees f.). I tried searching the net and read the manual on how to set it, but it doesn't keep.

jgeh, Where is that automation sensor located in the pipe? And, is it drilled straight through the top of the pipe or not? And, are you running a low speed or variable speed pump? Are both thermostat modes on the actual heater set to 104?

rgs, your heater won't fire if an automated controller is reading over 104. What make heater?

Help! Polaris Eos controller. Pentair heater. Heater will activate in service mode but not regular auto mode. Water set points okay. Combo mode set okay. Flow is okay. Sensors reading correctly. Heater will also turn on correctly if turning on in device manager set up menu.

Any help would be appreciated.

My pentagram keeps turning off spa and turning on pool Automatically when we are trying to use spa. Any ideas why it keeps doing this?
