More Craigslist fun

As I sit here on a Saturday night surfing Craigslist, I thought it might be fun for us to post the nastiest, most overpriced furniture we can find on our local craigslist.

I'll start -- 30 year old, nasty leather sofa for $150, anyone?

Why is this dining set worth $2700?

I remember seeing those "shoe chairs" at Ross a couple of years ago. They weren't $300.

Wow, that's a real small table. LOL

OK, who wants to try their decorating skills around these beauties?

When you see an ad like this is the first thing that comes to mind "stolen merchandise?" I think that about a lot of things I see advertised. Especially when it's not a contractor who is advertising.

These don't even look like mirrors, but what they hey, 'free' is a small price to pay for beautiful!

Nicely backdropped for the photoshoot. Four stools for your consideration.

(Looks like they're on an assembly line : ) Actually, I'm most interested in the slatted chair in the background.

One man's trash is another's treasure, because I want the stools and rocks!!

How about this sofa for $270. Buy now and get a matching chair and loveseat. Not sure if the stains match up.

They should have noted the wall paint color.

Valzone, you really like those rocks??? I think they's dang ugly debris!

I built a retaining wall out of rocks like those - they are very common around here (lots of bedrock here, so cheap building material for landscaping). I'll have to find a picture of my wall. You could also make a garden path with them. Oh yeah, I want them!! :O)

I just squinted ... maybe the rocks aren't what I thought they were...but the stools are still cool!

Urf. That reminds me of my other pet peeve WRT Craigslist (Aside from seeing "dinning room" and "rod iron"); when someone thinks that just because the furniture has a recognizable name that it's somehow worth waaaaaaay more than it truly is.

Case in point, this "Ethan Allen" post caught my eye:

An Ethan Allen sofa for only $300! Wow! Only $300!
    Uh, it's straight outta 1967!

Another favorite of mine; when someone "custom paints" something, and then asks an exorbitant amount of money.

    Like this table.

    Really worth $2000?

Oh lord, that "slipper chair" is hideous. My tattoo artist has one in his studio though, so maybe that says a lot.
    ;-)

reno, they need $2 to cover that ugligness up!!

Valzone, I love rocks too, but those are just broken up pieces of cut rock or something. I'm sure some are useful, but it just looks like a pile of debris that way, lol.

You're right, the stools could be worked with even though they look pretty grundgy -- and they're free! The ad's funny looking though : )

This site doesn't have anything to do with Craig's List, but is still full of laughably absurd items that folks have attempted to auction online.

Oh my gosh Auntjen, those are terrifying!

Oh gosh, I just have to have that "ball bag." Unbelievable stuff!!

Ah, yes! The fashion-forward ball bag! Might pair nicely with the frog coin purse.

Be the first on your block to own a coin purse made out of most of a frog.
Rest assured, you'll never be asked for spare change again.

    Hahahahahaha!

This one's the best, though. (Be sure to magnify the view!)

    Mercy.

Is this daybed *really* worth $2000??

Here is a link that might be useful: Ridiculously overpriced daybed

I was willing to pay $2000 for that daybed until I read that the cat is not included.

Squirrel - I am the type to get sucked in by anything that's free, LOL!! That's why I have a shed full of old crap that nobody wants =:-O I wonder if they have a 12-step program for people like me.... :O)

Val - I am so right there with you - in fact, I made a stealth run at 11pm last night to pick up some chairs that had been sitting out at someone's curb for a few days. I had eyed them up earlier that day but decided to pass because they were in horrendous condition. I couldn't stop thinking about them, though, so last night I snuck out, loaded them up, and they're now taking up room in my garage.

They need a complete gut and reupholster job, including a seat cushion, since the cusions are missing. The wood's going to need refinishing, and part of the back legs of one of the chairs were cut away so they could fit it flush against the wall - I'm going to have to figure out a way to repair that. Considering I've never upholstered anything before, I'm in for it. Add to that the fact that I already have about 50 similar projects in line ahead of it and 2 little kids that suck up all my time, and those things are going to be sitting in my garage til I'm collecting social security. If, that is, I don't get the courage to put them out by my curb first (that's admitting defeat and highly embarrassing when the original owners drive by, LOL!)

On the other hand, they DO have great lines....

ROFL lkplatow - I think we are kindred spirits! Maybe we need to start a thread showing pictures of our most hideous freebee possessions. Of course, I have paid small sums for equally hideous items...but they have SO much potential... and character...as I always say "You can't just walk into Walmart and buy this item"...that's how I justify it anyway....

Back up at the Ethan Allen sofa: Don't you love when the owner can't bother to turn the cushions the right way - zipper showing - or remove trash, toys, whatever before taking the picture?

I always love a photo with a ton of kids toys laying around upholstered furniture and maybe a dog laying on it too, and the description reads "like new" or "perfect condition". Um, ok. Hehehehe

I might be interested in this, if I could figure out what it is.

We know it's "vintage furniture" but what is a "bedroom sofa"? and what are "elephant legs"?

There's a picture but it's about as much help as the description. Hmph!

Better move quickly because sets like this tend to sell FAST. Calling is better than emailing. Don't let someone snatch these beauties away from you! They'll even deliver for free.

RENO, I would think that four gold balls are worth much more than $2000. It has two comforters one is college age. Am I right in guessing that means it's 18 to 22 years old?

Ikplatow and Valzone5, count me in on bringing home someone elses junk, just because it's cheap and has oh so much potential. I've finially found a way to support my habit though. I've started my own business repurposing or redoing these great finds and selling them!

Here's one that's been around for so long he had to add some interesting items in hopes to encourage buyers.

Now to me this looks supiciously like one end of a sectional sofa. But not according to the seller. Nope it's a loveseat/chaise seat. Must be somethin' I never heard of. Guess I need to get out more.

Here is a link that might be useful: loveseat/chaise seat is not what I'd call this thing....

rofl, Brutuses, I thought it was a door for a while : ) Now that I've gathered myself up again, I do see that the window is strung with some vertical wires or something -- hey -- you could hang earrings there!!

I totally agree about the people who don't bother to clean the clutter off of whatever they are trying to sell Or how about the ones trying to sell a couch with the dog laying on it. I love my dog, but would definitely shoo him off if I wanted to take a picture.

This one almost made me spit my coffee out this morning. Probably more than they paid for it in the 60's.
