Will this clock work?

Okay, so here's the plans for my bedroom so far.

The Bosporus fabric for the curtains. The plaid fabric below it for a dust ruffle:

I'll have a cream colored matelasse similar to this:

I just came across this clock at Penneys. The original price was $150 and it's on clearance for $69.99. Do you think it would look good in my room or should I stick with pictures only?

    Love it so much! Susan
All that you have picked out is lucious.

The clock is terrific. Right colors, right level of European provincial formality, and you like it. Your room will be lovely.

The clock looks wonderful with your decor. I once had one in our room but mine made a small noise when the needle moved that I could not bear, in total silence I could hear it.

    I think it's wonderful!

OMG! How perfect is that? Love it! You're room is going to be SO pretty!

Oh, good! I was afraid y'all were going to tell me not to put a big clock in the bedroom. Thanks! Now, if any of you happen to come across any thing else that you think would work, let me know. I want a picture for behind the bed, but I'm not sure what style to look for.

Laurie, it's all so pretty! I would look for something vintage looking for sure. Or you could do a grouping of pretty old mirrors or plates. Is the 4 poster the style of your bed?

How about a group of two or four (depending on your space) prints of French etchings in slender gold frames with generous cream mats?
A nice balance with your toile, if they appeal to you?
Here's a Google image group of examples. I'm thinking of the sepia and/or blue backgrounds with black and white landscapes or cityscapes, or animals, or farmers...whatever appeals to you?

it is a pretty clock, hard to tell the size..but it is pretty..

    Just a thought...

It's a beautiful clock, as is everything else you're using in the room, but isn't a large clock in the bedroom considered bad Feng Shui?

I've gone so far as to "hide" my alarm clock now. It's there and useable, since we do have to get up at a certain time, but it's out of obvious sight.

I absolutely LOVE all of your choices. The clock is really nice too. A big clock in a bedroom is unusual, but I think it will look good. Definitely check on how loud it is. I have a small one in my bathroom that is so noisy I may have to get rid of it.

I think the clock's great, but a large clock in a a bedroom seems odd to me. If it's silent, that's a plus, but my bedroom is the one place that I really don't want to be reminded of fleeing hours. If you love the colors and shape so much, why not decoupage or paint a round picture rather than an actual clock?

I love your choices, and agree that the clock ties in nicely ... but I too am rather uncertain about putting a large clock like that in a bedroom. It almost makes me think of uh, "timing" a certain thing ... ;-D

Nice clock - it will great in your room.

Yes, clock is lovely as well as all your choices.

Haven't heard that a clock in the boudoir is bad feng-shui, but hugely bad feng-shui is to give or receive a clock or watch as a gift. It's like saying, hey, your time is tick, tick, ticking away...the sooner the better! So, my advice is to just play it safe & buy your own timepieces!
Bad feng-shui in the bedroom is definitely equated with having a mirror that can be seem from the bed...all those hotels in the Poconos will have to redecorate if they want to have good feng-shui (mirrored ceilings, etc., etc!)

I think a clock in the bedroom just serves as a reminder of the cycles of day & night, & that there is a time to rest & a time to wake up!

Msrose, I love your choices. The colors are so restful together, and I love the clock. I have no clue if you should have one in the bedroom or not. It sure is a lot prettier than my digital.

Sinky-gardener - why is it bad feng-shui to have mirrors visible from the bed?

Oh Laurie - that is going to be a beautiful bedroom. I personally don't believe in feng-shui, but with such a calming space as I think this will be, I don't think a big clock is in keeping with the serenity that I hope you can escape to in your little retreat. The clock IS pretty though.

Artlover, the Chinese believe that the soul leaves the body as we sleep, & it would feel upset to see itself in a mirror! I know, I know, but these are things I've been hearing about for a while (my DH is Chinese, we'll be married 22 yrs. in June, together for 24.5 yrs.)

Actually, we both take feng-shui w/a grain of salt. So Roguevalley, I hear ya! It's just that DH was raised with this stuff growing up & it's hard to *totally* forget about it! While on the topic of bedrooms, dh has always said that a solid headboard is the most important decor item (for feng-shui) in the bedroom, no slats or openings should be in the headboard. This grounds you & brings you stability.

It's hard to feng-shui your whole life correctly, & we are kind of selective about it, but some things my DH is adamant about!

Msrose, my apologies for digressing from your topic of concern!

Well, as a Catholic we believe the soul leaves the body when we die. I would rather have my soul with the body every night rather than wandering around somewhere in the world. My body needs my soul close by at all times.

I still like the clock for your room. I really like those big clocks. I think I want to get a large black clock one of these days although I do not know where I would put it.

Yummm!!!!! Yes, I love everything you've picked out, including the clock.

My soul can stick around. It is my stomach that I wish would leave my body... and my thighs... and my butt...

Bad feng-shui in the bedroom is definitely equated with having a mirror that can be seem from the bed...all those hotels in the Poconos will have to redecorate if they want to have good feng-shui (mirrored ceilings, etc., etc!)

Why? Does it count if you never look in it if you can help it?

Thanks everyone! I thought I remembered something about bad feng-shui, but I couldn't remember if it was having a clock above your bed or just in the room.

mitchdesj - Hey, I slept through a hail storm the other night, so I don't think a ticking clock will bother me :)

pattiem93 - Unfortunately, I don't have a bed that I can call my own right now. I'm moving in with my mother while I save for a house and I'm redoing her guest room. She has this iron bed:

auntjen - Since I'm getting a divorce and moving in with my mother, I'll only be sleeping in this room. Won't be doing anything that could be timed ;)

Well, drats! I ordered it, but it says it's backordered and will ship on 6/26/09. It also says it's a closeout, so who knows if I'll actually get it or not.

Laurie, that's too bad about the clock. That bed is beautiful. I've always wanted a white iron bed.

Msrose, hang in there w/the backorder! I've been in the same boat w/Penney's & my item came through. I hope yours does... it's a very pretty clock!

Love your inspiration room, and your charming, vintage bed should be beautiful with the colors & look you're aiming for.

Best wishes to you as you transition into a new life! I think it's wonderful that you're doing something nice for yourself, making the effort to create a pleasing environment just for you. I hope the room, and everything else, falls into place for you.
