I had posted the same question a few months ago. I only had 1 or 2 responses. One person said that they live in Canada and that Luxor was marketed as a higher end cabinet brand. Another person had said they saw a Luxor display and thought it looked well made, but didn't know how the painted cabinets would hold up. Hopefully you can do a search on Luxor and see my OP.

I am probably going to be placing an order for Luxor cabinets in the next few weeks. The one stop shop kitchen place I am using sells Luxor as their cabinet of choice. The KD has said that they have been using Luxor for several years and do not have quality issues with them. By any chance are you from the CT area? I'm wondering if we are using the same kitchen place.

motherof3- Thanks for the information. I visited 2 kitchen showrooms on Long Island this week and both carried Luxor cabinets. The display cabinets looked beautiful. A KD from one of the stores is coming to my house to measure on Friday. I can't wait to get some sort of kitchen design. How big is your kitchen and are the cabinets fairly priced?

jax1723- I'd love to see pictures of your kitchen. Did you get any pullouts or special drawers?

jax - I would love to see pics too! I'm going with a wood stain, but want to see painted cabs just in case I change my mind.

In terms of pricing, my cabs cost approx $26,000. My kichen is about 14 x 15 and cabs include a desk and island. I went with the Wood collection and selected maple. I chose a deluxe finish (hazelnut) and one of the less expensive door styles (Bedford). I'm not sure if that's a good price for cabinets (didn't shop around). The mark up is 30% from cost which I though was fair. When the KD and I were pricing things out, finish and door style changed the price about a thousand up or down. Selecting maple over cherry was a couple thousand difference. They also have different MDF lines and style lines (French Country, Heritage, etc).

I've been working with my KD since November. We finally have our design completed and now were are negotiating labor costs on structural changes (opening up the kitchen and sunroom to the FR). I have a pretty good understanding of the Luxor design options (KD gave me this huge binder of all the cabinets/options). Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help out where I can.

The only things we got that aren't basic cabs are a super susan in the corner, a tilt out in the sink, and a double trash pullout. The trash pullout is great and very well made (from what I've seen comparing to others).

We were on a budget and doing a lot of it dyi so our costs were a bit more modest. We went with frameless cabs (MDF) and slab doors (that was the look we wanted). The drawers and everything are solid wood construction (nice dovetails and what not; I think maple) and the hardware is fantastic.

We have 14 cabs, panels for the fridge and DW and trim and it came to just under 10K.

jax - Your cabinets look so sleek! Thanks for sending the link for the pictures. I'm going for a traditional look for my center hall colonial, but your kitchen is looks really cool. You did a great job.

motherof3- You mentioned that you didn't shop around for prices on cabinets. I just got back 2 quotes on Luxor cabinets and they are very different. My kitchen is about 22'X13'. I will have cabinets running along 2 walls that are each about 13.5 feet long and another wall of cabinets that run approximately 9.5 feet plus a 6 foot island. One KD quoted me a price of $31,400 for maple Bedford door style. Another KD quoted me a price of $21,400 for cherry Bedford door style (if I want a glaze, the price goes up $1,100). Both prices include a pantry and desk. Let me know if you want a breakdown of cabinets and options. Also, can you give me a breakdown of the sizes and types of cabinets you are ordering?

Wow - That is a huge price difference, especially since cherry is more money than maple. I can't believe the markups on cabinets. Are the quotes with the same cabinet box? MDF boxes are less expensive than plywood, but it wouldn't be a 10k difference.

We also have the same kitchen dimensions. I have 2 long walls, one 13 feet and the other 14 feet. The 14 feet wall will have my fridge and double oven so it's not all cabinets. I also have a 9 foot wall with my rangetop. My island is also about 6 ft long, 40" wide.

I have to get back to you on the specific cabinets. I'll try to do that tonight or tomorrow. We don't have a desk, but a 30" broom closet and a 36" pantry, 1 corner super susan, 4 cabinets with mullion glass doors and beadboard in the back and sides, 4 table legs for the island and most of our bottom cabinets are drawers.

My cabinet cost came to $24,440. My design changed a bit since I last wrote you. I guess that's right between your 2 quotes. Luxor had a sale going on in Feb and I was able to upgrade to plywood boxes and get the deluxe stain color for free. My KD said that the Feb sale is better than the March one.

I hope this info helps. My cabinets were ordered last week and expected to come in on April 12th! I am excited, but a bit nervous with the whole remodeling project.

motherof3- Both prices include plywood boxes. Also included in price is crown moulding, light rail, toe kick and finished end panels on island and cabinets. Upper cabinets are 12" standard depth and 36" high (I may switch to 39" height)and lower cabinets are 24" depth. Right now the cabinets on the island are 18" deep because my island will only be 30" wide (the overhang will allow for seating but I'm still not sure if I'll be happy with 37.5" to 38" aisles on long ends of island, so I may switch to 24" deep cabinets on island and no seating).
Lower cabinets- 18" trash pullout, 9" cabinet for cookie sheets, 36" corner sink, 18" drawer base, 33" drawer base or pullouts, 30" drawer base, 18" drawer base, 33"/36" super susan, 9" spice pullout, 24" pantry with pullouts, 30" desktop, 18" drawer base.

Island- 3- 24" cabinets with pullouts

Upper- 27" cabinet, 12" cabinet, 24" corner cabinet, 12" cabinet, 33" cabinet, 30" over range cabinet, 30" cabinet, 30" cabinet,24" corner cabinet, 21" cabinet, 36" refrigerator cabinet, 48" cabinet.

KD is going to get back to me with price for 3 cabinets with glass dorrs tomorrow.

motherof3- Thank you for all of the breakdowns. I'm still waiting to get some more quotes back from other stores. One KD is going to let me know if any Luxor promos are still going on. I still have some time because we won't be starting the work until May or June. How much space will you have in the aisle between the island and your cabinets? Will you have seating at your island or cabinets only?

kodak1 - It's a good thing not to rush your cabinet design. We began ours in November and didn't order until 2 weeks ago. I changed our overall design several times. My KD has the patience of a saint. The Luxor folks were getting frustrated with him due to all my changes! I heard them chew him out on speaker phone and he just chuckled.

Originally I planned to have 3 seats at the end of our island for my children. I have a table leg at each corner of the island. At one end, I extended the legs so the granite would extend 33" past the cabinets. At that end, I would be abe to put a stool on each side.

In our final design, I ended up just having enough room for 1 stool at the end of the island (one stool for me). We normally eat in the dining room and I thought that would be better for the kids...but that's just me. I am not a fan of lining up stools on one side of an island. I would rather have cabinet space.

Between the rangetop and the island is 42 inches. Between the sink and island is 40 inches. Between the appliance wall and island (fridge and oven, main walkway through the kitchen) is 52 inches. We will be purchasing a side by side fridge just because of the space constraints. My sister has a very large kitchen and only has 30 inches between the sink and island and I had no idea it was tight until I asked her to measure. I think it depends on your specific work style.

So it sounds like my kitchen is around the same size as both of yours and I was just quoted 29k. How is the paint holding up? Any cracking? What was the reason for the price difference in the end, just different designers?

I'm also looking at Rich Maid, Fieldstone, and Crown Point. Please, I'm driving my husband nuts, if you have any suggestions I'd love them!

I have been looking for information on the quality of Luxor cabinets and this thread is the only thing I can find. jax1723 I am very interested to hear how are your cabinets doing after 5 years of use. thank you so much.

Hey there... They're doing fairly well. The biggest problem I have it a lot of the cabinet hardware (softeners/dampers) don't work that well any more but honestly I think a lot of that has to do with my wife being rough on them and forcing them closed instead of letting them do their thing. I spoke to someone at my cabinet place about replacing them and he mentioned they now come with a different style now so I'm not sure how they'd compare. Finish/paint has held up pretty well (especially since we've got a young son). Overall I'm pretty happy with them. Even being a bit beat up the kitchen still gets compliments often.

Can anyone speak as to how the painted finish holds up on the Luxor cabinets? there is very little info out there on this cabinetry and this is the main line my KD carries. I need an extremely durable finish although that might be impossible with baited whit wood in general. thanks

I went with high gloss white paint and they've held up pretty well. There are some small nicks and scratches but I have a 6 year old son and my wife is even more rough on things then he is haha. That being said I wish the cabinets came with some extra paint for touchups (maybe you can ask for that - I didn't think of it at the time). I may be signing a contract next week for Luxor cabinets, but I'm wondering about the warranty anyone has received for them. My contract with a small, local dealer is for only one year, and that seems extremely short relative to other cabinet warranties out there. Thoughts?

maybe there is another brand with the same name, the one we are talking about is in Saint Jerome Canada, it has a 5 year warranty on the cabinets and Lifetime on the drawers and shelving. see attached photo.

We chose cabinets from the French Country line when we built our house in 2001. Loved the look then and I still love them but sadly, the painted finish did not hold up well at all, especially on heavily used cabinets. Several years ago, I contacted Luxor directly and they advised me to send a door to them so they could attempt to match the paint and I could order replacements. I tried to do this through the retailer but they were less than helpful. Revisiting it again.

I have Luxor cabinets for 11yrs in almond. I love them but they began to get black spots all around them. The company replaced the damage cabinets but now some of the new ones are beginning to get the spots again. Something has to be wrong with the paint they use.

Hi...only useful exchange on regards to this cabinets. Hopefully not to late for some. Purchased my cabinets last December...Shaker in Brownies...can't remember the line right now but can look it up someone needs it. Total of $26,000 plus S/H. Five of the cabinets were damaged, some during shipping and others by the manufacturer, for example...holes for the adjustable shelf are not properly aligned. We contacted the dealer. The dealer contacted Luxor. First, they were going to send someone to fix some of the cabinets and replace the other one. A couple of weeks later, Luxor contacted the dealer. Apparently they made a mistake on the invoice, and we owed them about $4K more and they we needed to pay the remaining amount before they could send someone or replace the new cabinet. I found this to be extremely weird and unprofessional. On regards to the quality of the paint, I can still see paint residue when I wipe them clean. Also, the noise from our lazy susans (2) is just horrible...I can hear the steel balls just rolling around without a bearing.
