More TKO!

I was at a home show this weekend - after a stop at menard's. Well, I hijacked a customer at Menard's and pulled the REAL solid surface samples out of the desk drawer where I knew they were kept, showed those, showed the FX, showed the Oh, wait. I didn't do that. Did I? Wait. Maybe I did. Well, OK, I did. Those people are going to remodel their kitchen and it will be just a kitchen. And they'll be happy because that's all they know. But I gave them this website!!

Then at the home show, just before the kitchen presentation I cornered another potential kitchen remodeler. Yakked it up about this site, discussed farm sinks and lazy susans. Gave her this web site and my screen name...

Good grief! What am I turning into??? But I knew they could have a spectacular kitchen if they would come here. If not they will have an adequate kitchen. Why do I care?? MMOB!!

Pushing the Garden Web kitchen drug. Go Pinch me!

Well...you're just trying to be helpful, right?

Funny post -- I had a similar TKO moment last weekend. When the young salesman at a local appliance store started to stumble when a couple started asking questions about vent hoods and ranges, I couldn't stop myself from stepping in and explaining to them the pros and cons of baffles vs. mesh vent hoods, the ideal cfm for a vent over range, the use value of a 36" vs. 48" range, the meaning of DF vs all gas, etc. Turns out I'm pretty good at selling high-end appliances! The salesman didn't seem upset; indeed, he seemed pretty happy because I think I made the sale for him and he'll get a pretty nice commission if he sells the full suite of Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

IF TKO is a disease, is there a treatment?! Now why would I ask that question of a bunch of enablers?

gardenweb is my new facebook. i can't stop.

recently DH asked me if I was going to stop "going on that website" (referring to gardenweb) after our renovations are done. I looked at him and said "hells NO!"
It is addictive because it is helpful and informative and amazing and... - then again, I guess I don't need to preach to the choir here....

My GC Emailed me and asked if he could bring some clients over to look at my custom-made cabinets because they wanted to see an example of the cabinetmaker's work. When they got here, I found myself saying "And look at this cool thing...and this...and this." I sounded like a salesperson for sure.

"IF TKO is a disease, is there a treatment?!"

You're right about who you're asking that of, bc my response is 'Who wants a treatment??' LOL

pinch_me, I think you did a great thing, lol!

Hey pinch me - are you in the Twin Cities? The menards and home show references makes me think you are. I live in Como Park, St. Paul.

Ok, I'm about to humble myself finally. What does TKO stand for??? I'm afraid I have it even if I don't know what it is!

    Totally Kitchen Obsessed

    That's totally me!

Hey baligirl - I spent a lot of my growing up years hanging around Como Park. Way back when, my BIL ran a Pony Ride stand in the park, and I would spend most of my summers leading kids around on ponies, or on slow days, wandering around the park for the fun of it.

Back to the topic - I find myself getting very frustrated when someone starts talking about making changes in the kitchen, but they have no enthusiasm for doing anything other than what the salesman at the cabinet shop came up with.

We are having a local Home Show in the small town I live near (pop 14,000) so it should be interesting.

I should make up some Garden Web cards to hand out, I'm always recomending this site, though so far I've never seen any of those folks come on board - but like I said, they don't seem very interested in kitchen design, they just want a new look in the kitchen.

My big problem with hanging around this site - I keep seeing new things that I really want to use in my kitchen, but I'm so close to being done it is not practical to make any more changes!

Not in Twin Cities. Down here in Iowa waiting for the snow/slush storm scheduled for tonight/tomorrow.

"Garden Web cards to hand out"
YES!! Do it. I was searching for a scrap of paper to write it on. I think I'll print some off and carry in my checkbook. Yeah, I'm here a year later picking up great ideas for a kitchen. Why??? I'm DONE.

Evesdropping on a conversation in the break room today. I had to get up and move. She will end up with the same kitchen she has now. Sigh... But I didn't jump in.

Pinch_Me, when I went to the Denver Home & Garden Show a few weeks ago, my poor mom had to listen to me talking about GW all day. As we were driving home, she said she was really impressed with the detailed questions I asked the KDs and GCs at the show. I said I owed it all to my friends at GW. She's now starting to browse some of the forums here! ;)

I love the idea of GW cards!

Lol -- thanks for giving my current affliction a name: TKO! I should have realized it was a problem when it was suggested that I give up kitchen planning for Lent. What? Not until I get the cabinet order finalized and the countertops and flooring selected!

But I'm not addicted; I can stop anytime I want to! Right?

Maybe we should get/wear "team" jackets....! :-)

Cat_mom -- something like this? (Ok, I realize it's not the original intent of the spirit wear, but if it's already out there, no need to reinvent the wheel!)

Here is a link that might be useful: GW Sweatshirt/Spiritwear

    OMG jgs7691--that's perfect!

Now we just need kitchenkelly to come back here and come up with a super-secret handshake for us!!!!

I sold our barely used kitchen pendant light today off of craigslist. The woman who bought it is in the process of updating her kitchen. I didn't let her leave my house until I showed her the website and gave her the link to it, the finished kitchen blog, and a few other websites I've gotten things from. Poor woman, lol!

My neighbor emailed me about getting together but I declined as I am knee deep in construction plaster and living in canyons of boxes. And why would I socialize with people who cannot talk kitchens?

So she said that they will attack their kitchen in the fall. BIG mistake. I responded with nine paragraphs, even suggesting an Ikea visit. Will I ever have a normal social life again? With no friends left?

OMG.....I thought I was the only one with TKO affliction! I don't post/ask much here but have gotten so many GREAT ideas and knowledge for our kitchen reno by just perusing here. Big thanks to everyone who contributes.

Truly, I have found my people. I have to come to this website to get it out of my system, so that with my coworkers I can discuss something other than appliances and cabinetry.

**But I'm not addicted; I can stop anytime I want to! Right?**

Right! Except, not NOW, specifically. :-)

    I am soooo with you.....

**But I'm not addicted; I can stop anytime I want to! Right?**

Absolutely right. We just don't want to.

This is really funny. I was having a guilt trip thinking I had more or less kidnapped those people who had NOT asked me for my 25 but I gave them a dollar's worth anyway. And now I see "we're" everywhere and anyone talking kitchen update is fair game. We need some kind of point system. There should be bonus points for getting anyone to actually come here, join and post. I'm thinking about making a GWKitchens sweatshirt but it's getting a bit late in the year for a sweatshirt.

    A T then? A tank-top?????

My name is Katie and I am TKO. I tell people about this place all the time.. My dad is a kitchen designer, and I am still more obsessed than he is!

I have a story to narrate here. In my last job, in a meeting I happened to do a small talk with a director who mentioned that he was contemplating kitchen remodel and wondering whether to add an island there....and being a TKO plus TIO (Totally Island Obsessed), I not only told him that he should, but looked at his floorplan and told him that it could be improved by moving the fridge and that his corner sink would have problems with cabinet opening against dishwasher.

About a year later, I found myself working closely with this person's team due to a reorg within my company. Oops -- I do not think that he liked me taking so much initiative for his kitchen remodel.... I think he was sort of cold. I still wonder whether I should have kept my big mouth shut..but anyway.

TKO can be good for soul but bad for career :-)

I don't post much, but I am lurking all day, every day. I've gotten many great ideas from this forum. My husband must be tired of me starting every kitchen conversation with, "The people on Garden Web say..." The cabinet order was placed on Monday and demo is due to start in a month. I am going to need rehab when it's all done.
