Layout help

Hi! I'm seeking help from all you experts with kitchen layout. I am going to try to attach the drawings for the space. It includes the existing 9 X 13 kitchen plus a new addition 25 X 15 to accommodate EIK, 1/2 bath and mud room. Currently, the drawings have the working kitchen remaining in the current kitchen (to be remodeled) and the new area containing the table. There will be a patio to the back of the new area. I'm open to any and all suggestions, including total rearrangement of the space!

Things on my wish list include:

*double wall oven/cook top

*large single bowl sink

*pull out trash and large recycling containers

*pantry/food storage

*no built-in microwave (currently don't even own one)

*peninsula or island as long as it does not interfere w/ work triangle- drawing shows peninsula, could do either (or both)

*large fridge/freezer although I haven't done research on these so I don't know what's "out there" I do like those under counter fridge drawers for additional space.

*we are a busy family with 3 kids ages 3-7

*don't want powder room door opening into kitchen

Thanks for your help!

There are things I'd definitely change about the plan, as drawn, but can't see it clearly enough to catch all the details.

What is in the wall to the right of the (crowded) cooktop? Will you have a jog in the interior to the left of the sink? How tall are all those windows... Mostly, do they come down too far to have counter underneath, or are they changeable, too?

This shows peninsula seating backed up to the table (looking too close for comfort)... Do you need that much seating? If you change to an island, will you want seating on it and how much?

What is to the bottom of the kitchen? Is this the only dining space? Looks like people might walk through the kitchen to get from living room to the table?

I think we need a clearer pic with clear dimensions to help more, and it will also help to know the general layout of this floor of your house, for traffic patterns, etc.

the pinchpoint between dining and kitchen at end of peninsula would be better not existing. For this lg space,I'd eliminate the peninsula...make that outer wall run as long as you can,and put an island in the center of kitchen running parallel to sink and range walls/perhaps curve at dining room end with a couple stools even. The passage of people moving back and forth can occurr then on both sides of island, and the whole feeling in the space "opens up".[can't tell about appliance placement efficiency from small pic]

Ok I'm going to try posting the layout again. Also, in answer to your questions:
Rhome: To the right of the stove is a doorway to a space at the top of the basement steps. Currently this 5X7 area serves as our mudroom and the door to the back yard is there. I am not sure what you mean by a jog to the interior near the sink. The windows above the sink are movable and are high enough for counter space underneath.
As for amount of seating on the peninsula, I am not really sure. I imagine my kids will sit and do homework there (we have 3 kids) but we will have meals at the table. I could do a round table, too.
The room below the kitchen is actually the formal DR. It is a fairly big room- about 13X15. The new area that has the kitchen table drawn in the plans is actually the EIK area. Unfortunately I don't have the entire house plans, but is is a 1929 center hall colonial with a large LR on the left and the DR and kitchen on the right of the entry. The LR does not connect to the K or back entry but it could by making a doorwar. Herb- how big an island were you thinking?
To be honest, I am not at all happy with the current layout- seems like a big area for a table with a crammed work area.
    Thanks for your help!

So between the stove and the fridge is a doorway? It looks like there is counter there... So is the doorway being closed up? If it will be closed, is there a reason the stove can't be centered in that area?

Is the span too wide to take out that bit of wall behind the fridge so that the kitchen could open over to the powder room wall? (I see an X on the end of the wall behind the fridge, thinking maybe there's a load-bearing post there) But I'm guessing that's an island in the drawing and you mentioned the possibility of having an island instead of the peninsula... And you have only 13'3" right now. That means after 2 ft deep cabinets on each side, plus some overhang, you'll have about 9 ft in the middle of the floor. If you have the recommended 42" work aisles, you'll have room for only a 2 ft wide island.

Also, do you really need kitchen table seating, bar seating, and dining room seating? Can the kids do homework at the kitchen table?

I see a jog in the wall just above where the dishwasher is drawn in the plan...Where the old section ends and the new starts after that... with it's interior wall into the room more than the wall above the dishwasher. I don't feel like that's a clear explanation, but I hope you see what I mean. If that jog will be evident, you might want to work with it in your design somehow.
