Sailboat baby quilt finished

This is the second baby quilt that I made for the little boy being born to one of the gals that was in our son's wedding. They are due in July and love sailing (a couple years ago they took 3 months off from their jobs and chartered a boat in the Caribbean! Lucky young people.) ANYWAY, I figured a boat/beachy them was a good choice.

It measures 42 x 56. I went online and found some outline drawings and used them to quilt in the yellow squares. I really like the smiley sun and the seahorse.

The baby shower is on Sunday, so I am hoping they like it too!

Sue, it's a wonderful quilt. I love sailing and the Caribbean, so there's no way that I wouldn't love this quilt too. You did a fantastic job. How clever of you to find the drawings for the quilting motifs. I'm sure the parents will go bananas when they see it.

I love the motifs -- especially the seahorse -- and I love how you made the hull of the boats -- and I love the green fabric -- I love everything about this quilt! You captured the essence of sailing perfectly. Great job!

About the size-I just read an article urging quilters to make larger sized quilts for babies since Pediatricians recommend not covering babies in cribs -- so you are right on trend making these baby quilts a bit bigger.

It is going to be a wonderful shower for you!

I mean to ask... Is that your own pattern, or can it be purchased?

Beautiful! I really like your fabric choices and the designs. Your quilting looks professional.

Perfect for a baby and the later years. I want one myself lol!

Thank you everyone! It was fun to make, but I hadn't thought of how I would quilt it before I did! I asked my quilt group what they thought and they gave me the suggestions to look for some "beachy" kind of pictures, along with a sun, to put in the yellow squares. Thank goodness for clip art! I traced around the designs using that yellow tissue paper on a roll and pinned them to the fabric then fmq'ed around the designs. I love the green batik, also. It has enough blue in it to remind me of water - so I used kind of a "wavy" fmq in those squares.

Lois, you can find the pattern on ebay, although I didn't follow it completely. Mostly used it for general design.
