Plastering Time-final decision

I am at my final stages for my pool. Tomorrow I get the decking applied and then hopefully next week, the plastering process begin. I appreciate all of the comments that I have seen on this forum. You guys have truly educated me on the pool building process.

My question deals with I want to know if its worth getting the colored plaster to enhance my pool water color. Right now I am resigned to getting Pooltite Plaster (white). Standard package that comes with this pool builder. But they are offering me a discount to get the following choices.

Sunstone-Natural, buff,blue,cayman,antigua, jade, blue quartz

Sunstone Select- Emerald, Granite, Sapphire

I know I don't want a green pool color so that eliminates the Emeralds and jade.

My question is I am also getting the Hayward Colorlogic led's to have my pool change color at nite. Have you seen using any of these types of plaster, if they will wash out the lights on the led's.

Also will any of these plasters give a rich blue color, that I'm desiring. I don't want deep blue such as black onyx.

I'm leaning towards just keeping the white and just enjoying the led's. If anybody could give me pictures or opinions on these types of plasters I would surely appreciate it.

Once my pool is done, pictures will be forthcoming.

Thanks so much.

i dont know those colors, but our pool is a med-dark, (diamondbrite mixture), and we have 2 colorlogics, and they look great.

by the way... do you think you'll look at your pool more at night or daytime?

good luck with your decision... I know its a hard one.

Good question Stevenbr. Very good question. One that I have been wrangling over with in my head. Personally I think I will be more impressed with the changing lights, but I want that pop factor when people come over during the day.
Also after looking at past forums, a lot of people say the darker the color the warmer the water, and I can't stand a warm pool. I find it miserable. So that may also play into my final decision.

I am unsure of your color choices but will say that in our last pool we had the basic finish (diamondbrite) and this time we went with a french grey which I love!! (It's medium grey) I am so glad we did that. I think it makes our pool look so much nicer. We have one Sam's light in our pool and although it's fine in the deep end, in the shallow end when it is on certain colors it is not as bright. Personally it doesn't bother me one bit. I really think it's a personal choice in what you are trying to achieve. Maybe your PB can give you some examples of other pools you can go see or even pictures to help you decide. We have solar so I can't really say that the finish does warm our pool more. Our neighbors have the regular white finish and their pool is cooler than our's however our solar is set to a specific temp. so that's why.

Here's a picture. I haven't taken any at night yet. The pool was just finished about 3 wks ago.

I was going to show you a picture of my pool, but then I remembered the thread in this link which has a bunch of different pools. Also look in the gallery (link is at top of Pools and Spas page.

I think the grey plasters give a blue color with a slight green undertone, if that makes sense, LOL! Tile color and depth can make a difference too.

Also, I read here that most people with the colorlogic lights always keep it on blue. I don't have them so I don't know if it's true.

I typed a long post.. and now I don't see it.. hmmm...maybe just me...

    condensed...

i struggled with that decision too... we live in south louisiana, so was concerned with heat...

ended up with diamondbrite, 8 tahoe blue, 1 onyx, 1 midnight blue.... looks light blue dry, gray shallow, aqua shallow, and more blue the deeper it gets.

my deck jets do a good job of cooling the temp... amazingly actually... get a few deck jets, no matter what!

i have 2 colorlogic lights... one in the "end" which i can see from in my house... which is very distracting, my mistake. it looks best to me set on blue.. and looks nice.. but not near as nice as it looks in the daytime (to me)

my only regret is light placement... not plaster color selection.

be warned though... don't expect perfection from colored plasters... but my neighbor says he was always fighting leaf stains in his previous white plaster pool.... nothings perfect i guess.

    best-o-luck!!!

What plaster finish did you end up selecting?! Same questions here about the plaster 17 years later :)
