Ace hardware has everything you need. The magnetic paint can be sprayed with chalkboard paint. My experience has been great with the spray chalkboard. So good that I wish other paints went on as easy and clean. No drips, covers great.

Once read on here somewhere (or maybe on a blog) that it can be bumpy if you don't really mix it, shake it, stir it, whatever, b/c the metal filings settle.

Again, no experience, just remember reading that so follow the instructions carefully to get a nice smooth finish.

Via your post on Kitchens, I never thought about their suggestion for a metal sheet and painting chalkboard paint on top. Is a great idea and much less work and cost.

I wanted to second emagineer about painting a metal sheet vs. magnetic paint/chalkboard paint.

We did multiple coats of magnetic paint underneath our chalkboard paint on the side of our built-in fridge and it really isn't as strong as we would like. We followed the directions exactly but it seemed to take so many coats! HTH

I just put some spray painted chalkboard sheet metal in a large frame for a magnetic chalkboard. Real simple!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the input!!! I think I'll go the sheet metal route painted and framed; it will be a good project for the kids! :)
