Freeze protection

Hello,

For everyone who uses automatic freeze protection on their systems: What temperature do you set it on?

A pool maintenance guy says set it on 38, but here in Dallas, it gets into the 30's fairly often in the fall/winter without getting down to below freezing. It seems like the pump will be running a lot.

Can't it be set closer to freezing, say at 34, to properly protect the plumbing and save on the electric bill at the same time? This is our first winter with the new pool. We want to be prudent with the electric bill but, of course, don't want to take any unwise chances with freezing the plumbing.

Any feedback is really appreciated.

Anthony
