I might accept 1/4" or 1/2" but 1"+ never. This occured because of an equipment or human error and is unacceptable. "ALWAYS DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR WORK" I repeat this to my guys constantly. I may misspell something on this forum, but then I dont have thousnds of dollars on the line.
The laser level is a great tool, but should ALWAYS be checked with water level, the most accurate level ever invented, no matter how primitive it may seem.

Keep in mind that this does not effect the preformance of the pool or your ability to use it. I would suggest making a deal. Like have the builder take $2000 off the price and you dont make him redo it. If he wont play ball, get quotes to fix it, you will need them in court.

You're not being picky at all, 1"-2" off OMG. No way I would be happy, call them back now.

If he was working to existing coping that was already off level, it may have been unavoidable. If that is the case, it should have been apparent and discussed before the remodel began.

The pool remodel included removing and replacing all of the existing tile, coping and plaster, adding a spa, necessary equipment, along with 1700 sqft of stamped stained concrete.

So, yes, they were working with the existing layout which may have been off level. The tiles that were there were larger, so the grout lines that existed didn't provide as drastic of a visual clue.

I have a list of about 12 things, mostly minor, that I think need to be addressed. My husband thought I was being too picky on the grout lines so I was curious what others thought was acceptable.

If they replaced the tile and the coping then you are right. The tile waterline should be near perfect level as they should have leveled the tile as they installed it then they should have come back and flaoted for the new coping. It sounds to me as if they just installed the new tile along the top of the bond beam thinking it might be level which in fact when they removed the old coping they also removed the old porland cement used to float for the original coping. I would definatly have they either fix this which in this case would mean retile and recope the pool again. Or as Mike said request some form of compensation. Good luck with this. And Happy New Year

Thank you everyone for your input. I really don't want to deal with having the coping and tile redone, which I assume would also mean draining and refilling the pool again.

I'll have to figure out what I expect as adequate compensation.

Uh, this isn't minor. This is shoddy work at best. Makes me wonder about the rest of the job.

Have you given them the final payment yet? If not, insist on them taking care of your list before they get the last payment.

It sounds like you haven't brought it to their attention yet. Point it out to the man in charge and tell him you're not happy with it. See what he says.

This has happened to me too. Waterline is an inch off from one side of pool to other side. Pool co. wants final pmt and I said after its fixed. Am I wrong? I really dont want pool drained again and refilled but I dont know what to do. any suggestions?
