window treatment question

when panels are hung to the side on a number of round hooks (look like round tie backs almost) what do you think they use for those hooks. I think that the tiebacks are really big, too big for my use, but have never seen anything similar in the window treatment isle.

I urge you to do a "search". I know what "they" use for "those hooks". You need to put forthe more effort to find the answers to your questions.

The reality IS that the answers to your questions won't be found in the "curtain aisle". You're asking very specific questions and the "onesizefitsall" big box answer is rarely adequate for a lot of homeowners.

I work for people with deep pockets. But I know how to come up with a really comprehensive, thoughtful PLAN for window treatments.

Do a search, READ the replies. I've posted penty over the years that will give you a BIG "ten fingers".

You know I read on here all the time, I don't post a tremendous amount. I do a lot of research myself all over the place. Every time I ask a question people tell ME to look it up, even when they know the answer. I am just looking for a little help to make my life easier, I just moved, I have 2 young kids and am going back to school, I don't have hours and hours to devote to searching the internet.

How come I see plenty of people get their questions answered but when I ask one I get told to do research.

Sorry didn't realize you had to be part of a club

Sorry jea2007-- I wish I knew because I would tell you if I did....

    Hi there,

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about? do you mean curtains that are not on a rod, but are hung by hooks? If you can't post a picture, can you link to a pic that will show us what you are referring to?

Do you mean something like used for this WT?
    {{!gwi}}
If so I'm wondering if you could find them where you'd get other hooks like for a robe in a bathroom? I know Lowes used to have lots of different neat hooks that could work for this type of curtain. I found them in their closet and organizing department.
Good Luck! And don't let something like the above rude comment bother you. We all feel like we're out of the loop at times, it's those that act that way that have the problem not you dear.

Smith and Noble have some cool hardware for tiebacks.

Jea, I hope you return-- you were treated atrociously and I am sorry for that. I can't imagine what horrible experience would make someone strike out at a stranger-- or any person-- like that but there are many here who are willing to help you.

I will be honest, I am not sure what you are describing. Can you share a picture or a link? At first, I thought you meant the clips on rings but now that I've read the other responses, I am not sure what you are describing... but man, I really like the picture justgottabeme shared. Is that it?

Geeze Chelone - isn't that what these forums are for, to help one another out?

Your response was not only cold, but mean.

I just built a new home myself jea, and I too, have many treatment questions with the new, expansive windows. Sorry that I can't help you, but unlike Chelone, I would if I could.

Thanks to all of the other posters here who showed some compassion, it's very nice to see.

I second what everyone has said here. Jea, we hope you come back! Sorry you've had two bad experiences, but there are a lot of people who will help you out and enjoy doing it!

I am not siding with the cold response, but in all fairness to chelone, there are many people who post questions that have been answered several times. In this case, I couldnt figure out what jea was asking so my response would never have been look it up. It would have been post a picture. Many times I wish there was a statement at the top of the forum saying post pictures with your questions:) I have on occasion responded to posts that if you do a search you will find a recent post to this question. I dont write it to be mean, I say it because there was a lot of useful information given and its worth looking it up.

I think it is fine to suggest some research, even better if you can post some specific direction for that research, for example say do a search on widgits and you will find lots of info. In this case if I knew a specific name I would have asked. There are a couple examples in the gallery and if I can figure out how to link to them I will.

Many thanks to those with help to offer or just kind words.

And yes the picture justgottabeme posted is right on the money, but I have seen other types. I was thinking about cabinet knobs? Maybe that will be enough but not too much..

this link is what I have in mind

    Thanks again

I understand what you mean jea, if someone has the expertise to show someone the way, why not share? I thought this is why we post. Sorry you had a bad experience, keep on posting because there are so many people willing to help and go the extra mile to do so.

Oh, Chelone ... shame on you.

I'm pretty sure they call them medallions. They might actually be the same as tiebacks, but they could also be slightly smaller. I googled drapery medallions and got a bunch of links to check. Hope you can find what you are looking for.

that is the word I needed, already getting some great ideas

here is a pic posted by another member, Klutterkara I think. they are great!

That was a rude and unnecessary response.

Chelone, this is *not* a pro window treatment board. It's a decorating board. If you're so annoyed with the peasants asking mundane window treatment questions, just leave them to the rest of us.

We don't mind, and we *like* the conversations, no matter how banal you might perceive them to be.

Jea, first of all, take a look at the picture attached, this may give you an idea for what you are looking for. Depending on your budget, you can find hardware like this at a number of places like BB&B, Linens and things, Country Curtains. This will be a good place to start.

Sometimes if you know what what you want but are not sure of what to call it, it can be frustrating to describe or articulate. I hope the responses you have received above will now point you in the right direction.

Chelone, you know what, I've had it with you. Who the heck do you think you are. You are forever posting mean, rude and unnecessary messages. You accused me a week or so ago of being a "meanie", well honey take a look in the mirror, because the reason you can identify one so easily is the fact that such venom lives within you.

There is absolutely no reason to be rude, ever!! If you didn't want to answer, why post. We all know you are an expert but if you do not want to share your knowledge and be civilized why do you come to this board? Did it ever occur to you that Jea might have had a moment free and just posted her question. We all do that and then realize, maybe I should have done a search first or assumed that it would be perceived as an easy question to answer when in fact it is not?

I have seen you time and again just flat out post awful and hurtful things and I'm so sorry that you have such a dismal life that you have to lash out at others. I'm an expert in my field and I would NEVER talk to people the way you do here. The real true expert is humble and willing to share when they can.

About a year ago I challenged you about your postings being so mean. Yes I was the one that started the thread. No I didn't go away as you thought, I've been here all the time, I just tried to rise above the nastiness and venom you spew all the time.

You talk all the time about how your parents raised you, well clearly it was not with dignity and do unto others as you would have them do unto you attitude, cuz I sure as heck hardly ever see it here. I know mine did with a dose of if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all.

You never know what is going on with people's lives and therefore is it possible to start with the benefit of the doubt. Sheesh!!

This will probably get pulled but you know what I don't care. I finally just had to get this off my chest and for the record NO it does NOT have to do anything with the thread that I pulled. I'm just tired of the "that's just Chelone" attitude around here. We all have to be accountable for our actions and behavior.

I'm still not sure I understand the original post/question. If the "panels are hung to the side"
then how is the picture justgottabeme "right on the money"?
Are you just looking for smaller round knobs to drapehold your panels over to the side? As in smaller than the large ones you've found at Lowe/Home Depot?
Is that why you mentioned kitchen cabinet knobs?
If so, I think the problem with smaller knobs is that they are too small to fit a lot of scrunched up drapery behind. Unless this if for a sheer or lace panel.
If you are actually going to tie them to the knob and the knob won't show then it doesn't matter what you use I guess.

I'm not a doctor but I like to play one on the internet, and I recommend a laxative for chelone. Hope it makes you feel better :)

When someone comes out of nowhere and posts something hateful, it makes me wonder if they have a substance abuse problem.

A rare attack of honesty, I guess, and i apologize to chelone. However, Daisy, you have done the very same thing--diagnosed an illness based on a rude post. The difference is that mine was meant to be tongue in cheek; yours' was not.

Kswl, not to speak for Daisy but I suspect she wasn't referring to you and your post.

As a relatively new board member myself, I'm apalled with Chelone's heartless response. I often try to "search" for answers to my questions only to come up with so many unrelated posts, it's not even funny. I work full-time, am a mom to two ADHD kids, and recently completed my MBA degree. I also don't have time to sift through tons of prior posts hoping to possibly find something that is directly related to my question. While a search for a simple topic in a simple situation may be wise, for more complex topics, it's not practical for busy people.

I don't think anyone should be obligated to search everything before posting anything. I love this board and value the people here a great deal. In fact, this is my favorite past time at the present moment. It's unfortunate that anyone would be on the receiving end of such a sarcastic, bitter response post.

Jea, I think you can use cabinet knobs-- a pretty look might be using those crystal knobs that look like antiques, or I've seen people use a variety of knobs, depending on their style. The size of them probably needs to take into account the length of your curtains and the height of the rods. Good luck!

I apologize, my intention was not to be mean. It was more of an observance. If someone continuously leaves comments that are innapproriate and hurtful, it makes me wonder what is going on that provokes them.

Speculation is usually much worse than the truth, and I hope that is all it was here. Maybe she just had a really bad day. I hope that's all it was, and I will try to not to read between the lines again.

Daisy, I also apologise for thinking you were addressing me; when one post immediately follows another it is easy to misconstrue the antecedent.

It's not a problem at all - don't give it a second thought.

From what I've seen on this board the past few years that's a fairly typical response from Chelone.

This is a first - even the Chelone apologists aren't stepping in to this one.

I'm not quite sure that I understand the description, either, but do any of these look like what you have in mind? I would search under tie backs, hold backs, medallions, and look at the Pate-Meadows website. They may sell the supplies now, in addition to patterns. I'm not sure.

Here is a link that might be useful: Any of these?

Meant to include this link. They refer to them as "knobs." ;>)
