Looking for a decorative birdhouse

I've seen pictures people have posted of birdhouses with an old crystal doorknob as a perch and I think they're so pretty. I've not been able to find one locally or on the Web. Any suggestions of where I might find something like that?

Tammy, I'd look at craft fairs or antique/old furniture type shops.

I am interested to see if any one else has any ideas because I would love to have one too.

I purchased mine at a locally owned home/clothing store. It's made with old wood, vintage hardware and a cross made out of square nails. You can't really see the roof very well, but it is metal with a verdigris finish.

I searched "birdhouse + old wood + glass + doorknob" and came up with this:

There are a TON of them at a local antique mall here. One man has an entire booth of the ones exactly like allison's and he does historic homes w/ columns etc too. Then there are a couple other folks that do really sweet ones that are more rustic and have lots of things on them like cute signs and grapevine wreaths etc. If you would like I could go and take some pics and send them to you and we could work out you getting some of them. I would be glad to help any way I can. I was amazed at the prices. The white ones like Allison's are all in the 20.00 range unless they are really ornate then they go to 50 or so. But they are really beautiful and well made. The rustic ones are all about 10.00 or so. Let me know. You can e-mail me through GW. I am in Opelika AL and I could either get the vendor to post them to you or we could figure out something . I have tons of boxes. Caroline

Trailrunner, you are so sweet to offer that! And I can't believe one like Allison's would be around $20! Sure, if you do get the chance to get over there and take some pics, that would be great.

I can't believe one like mine would be $20 either. :-/ If so, I need to know where this antique mall is, Caroline, especially if everything there is cheap! Opelika is not that far from me. lol

Mine came from White Flowers. One year, DH asked the girls what to give me for my birthday. We had just been there and I saw the birdhouse. DH was sweet enough to go get for me. Glad DDs remembered.

artlover, the eBay one is pretty, and not a bad price either.

I could've sworn I saw one at Joann fabric the other week.

    I really like them.

The fellow that has a booth at Angel's Antiques is POW ( his initials not a reference to military service) and he has amazing houses exactly like the one that Allison posted. He will take a photo of your home and make a bird house exactly like it too . You will see when I post pics the 1st of the week. I will take detailed shots and also bring his business card home and you can then contact him. I am glad to do this as I strongly support local crafts people. Caroline

I love them too but where do you put them?

artlover, I have 2 in my sunroom on the floor as they are very heavy and large. You can use them anywhere. If they are weather worthy then they look great on posts in the garden, or in a sunroom or on top of an armoir. It depends on how rustic or fancy they are. I am sure others have better ideas than I about where to put them. c

    Artlover,

I brought many that were spread around the inside of house or hanging on the fence at our last house. They are on the top shelf of my pantry. I can't reach it without a chair, so I thought why not put something there to make the room enjoyable. : )

Another in the laundry room, where I also have a shelf of antique birdcages:

One of my favorites is in the breakfast room:

    Thanks! I enjoy seeing them.

Allison those are all so wonderful. I particularly love the last 2. You will enjoy the pics of the white ones I will post. I will try to get there today. c

We got these two bird cages a few years back for my son's room. (He wanted a Tahitian theme.) Know they're not exactly what you're looking for, but I always thought they were pretty.
